A buddy can hook me up with some "Falcon" performance tires for $475 for all 4 with taxes and everything (215 55 R16) I havent heard of Falcon until recently, but apprently they are japanese performance rubber.
from what I have heard Falcon tires are good, and the price is good, but I wanted to get more opinions before I fork out the $475.
what do you guys think?

I love my *Falkens*
I cut better 60 foots at the track with my azenis rt-615's than with BFG drag radials if that gives you an idea. Awesome tires all around. I doubt I'll ever buy another brand of tires again after having these.
Falken RT-615's are really nice tires..
If you can get the exact kind of tire he is hooking you up with, it'd be easier to say whether it's good or not. Every manufacturer has good and crap tires. It also helps if you tell us what you want the tires to do. Someone's great tire may be a crap tire for someone else because it rides too hard / is too loud / doesn't grip in the wet / wears out too fast.

I had Falken Ziex for my stock rims. The tread was too soft for me.

I have Ziex on mine, which if your buddy is selling you Ziex, check out discounttire.com where they're like $60ish each. I have them pumped up to 39 psi, but they still seem soft? they handle great, but i think i spin in the rain a little more than my old bf goodrich traction ta's.

I found out they are Falken Ziex ZE-512 's.
so your saying Traction T/A's are better?
that was actually what I was planning on getting, but they cost alot more.
Also does anyone know anywhere in canada where I can get these tires for cheap ?

oh wait, your in canada.... the traction t/a's were good in the rain, but i slid everywhere in the snow... my ziexs were great this winter, but not so great in the rain.

well, they're both better than the touring t/a's IMO, go with whichever fits your budget, both great tires.
I have Falken Ziex ZE-512's on my STi.
They have smooshy sidewalls, which makes initial turn in sort of uncertain, but they do grip well for an all season once the sidewall does its flex thing.
I did alright in the snow with them last winter. I can get them to break loose on wet pavement if I am stupid, but if you drive reasonably, they stick alright.
I only put about 9k miles on them and they are down to the wear bars on the outside edges. However, this included a track day, a few autox's, and lots and lots and lots of mountain road driving. All three of those are things that you wouldn't expect a all season to do. I'd buy them again, especially for the price.
They are not summer tires, though.
As far as $475 for all four, I paid $450 for all four, mounted, for 225/45/17's. 16's should be less expensive. I'd shop around - Edge Racing has them for $68/tire (http://www.edgeracing.com/tire/751/) at that size.
And, if it makes you feel better, they were the #1 all season tire choice in Consumer Reports.

Foxy, what psi do you run yours at for everyday driving? Like I said, I'm at 39 - 40 and it still feels soft.
At the track, I had them up to 44psi and they still felt soft. On the streets, I run them at about 35psi because the roads around here are fairly rough and potholed. They just have soft sidewalls :(

I hear the 615s are MUCH MUCH better than the 215s, but yea Falken tires are pretty badass.

Werd. I'll say it over and over. I LOVE MY AZENIS 615's. My sidewalls leave something to be desired as mentioned, but they're a hell of a step up from the RSA's. When I drop the PSI at the track though, I don't even notice a change in how soft they are.

He's not talking about Falken. My GA needed new tires when I bought it. FALCON tires were installed. They are a brand.
I am running the stock 15" alloys. The tires work great, but one seems to be losing air. Might just be the way they were installed.
Try http://www.tiredepot.com/ for the tires. They usually have really good prices!

I wouldnt trust a 'new' or unheard of tire brand. For cheap tires that still GREAT for dry grip and comfort and good corner tackling, Falken, Kumho, Sumitomo, or Hankook are all amazing. Ive had my 'kook RS2 z212's for about 20K now and they still have a bit of tread left, but their turn-in response and dry grip is still close to what is was when they were new! But they are a bit louder now at freeway speeds, due to uneven wear since my front alignment is still off.
For strictly summer tires I reccomend the Hankook z212s, Falken 615's, or Kumho MX's. All damn good UHP tires for about $110/tire at 17'' sizes, and $100/tire at stock sizes. (which is damn good for UHP tires, the yoko, toyo and bridgestone equivalents often cost more than $130/tire

Stay away from kuhmo and sumitomo IMO. Soft tread, soft sidewalls. Crap tires from my experiences.
Just get the 615's and you'll be more than happy.

i've had falken tires and really liked them. that's what my next set for the GA will be.
As far as getting them in Canada, I know a shop in Burlington that has them. send me an email and I will hook you up if you want.

I am a moron. My tires are actually Falkens. I apparently cannot read.

still looking at tires...
I've ruled out 615's because of the price, and because I heard the treadlife isnt as good. so that leaves me with the 512's...
https://www.1010tires.com/tire.asp?tiremodel=HRi&tirebrand=Fuzion
Fuzion tires, I wonder how they compare to Falken?
they are cheaper, and so far have a better review rating (but then again there are less reviews)
my car isnt exactly a race car, I just want good traction and handling in the rain and dry weather. should i still stick with falkens or go with fuzions?
argh..
i can get the falkens for $570 total or the Fuzions for $550 CDN shipped.
why is it so damn hard to pick tires!

seriously ... just go to a tire shop and say "I need all-season tires." You don't need anything special.

I was going to do that, but 215 / 55 / 16 is an oddball size, and if I go to a 215 /60 the tire will rub the struts. most normal tires start at 60, not too many 55's.
either way its going to cost me around $500 for 4 tires. theres a +/- $100 for how good the tires I get will be.
Traction TA's, 512's, and these "fuzion" tires are the cheapest, most relaible all seaons tires I can find in that size.
Between the Falkens and the Fuzions, I'd go with Falken.
Fuzion's sort of Bridgestone's entry-level tires and I think they use 'last year's' tire compounds/tire technology. The ZRi's are decent summers, but even then I'd go with Hankook Z212's.
Unfortunately, I don't think either tire comes in 215/55/16.
