I have a 99 grand am SE and i recently bought a 1200 watt sony xplod amp with subs. I am ok with hooking the subs up to the amp, but im not sure about hooking the amp up to the head unit and car battery. I have the amp kit ready and i know this may be asking alot but i would like to know how to run the wires from the amp in the trunk to the head unit and the battery, along with getting to the head unit. if anyone knows anything please respond because i would like to get this done asap.

Umm.... Bring it to a pro. shop ASAP. First, I know you're young and don't know alot about car audio (I'm assuming) but your amp doesn't push 1200 watts... It might put out 200-250, if you're lucky. Second, since you obviously don't know anything about installing a system, please bring it to a pro. Have them show you how they do it so you can learn, but please don't ruin your car or electrical system with a faulty install...

if you really want to do this yourself, which i WOULDN't recommend, then here is a good how-to

Installing an amp and subs (http://gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32117&highlight=installing+amp)

But, i would say, that u should take it to a pro shop if you son't know what your doing. A simple thing like a bad ground could f*ck up your system. You need to do it right, so my advise is.....have it done, or have somebody who knows how to do it, help you.

I had my first system installed when I was 16, although Birdhouse told me not to get the subs(Pyramids), i did, and they blew. They didn't blow because of my install, they blew because they were cheap subs. Now I have Kickers :D
Anyways, I was lucky enough to have a friend in the customs business and he showed me how to install them. Having somebody show u how to do it, would be a good idea, and a good learning experience. :D

Yes, make it easier for people like me. Bring it to a pro first. I hate it when customers come in and say they started the install, but don't know how to finish it, or say its not working. I usually charge them more then if I was to do the whole thing from the start. (Most shops are like this by the way).

Thanks for the advice, I know some guys that will install this for me for free because they did my friends car last winter. But just out of curiosity how much would it cost for the entire installation process?

Depends where you go. 150-250 would be my guess.

The first time i got mine installed...it was like 65 dollars.

Make sure you get good wiring so you dont have to do it all again when you get better subs.

Hey if anyone reads this I would like to say thanks for the advice. I looked into everything a little more and decided to try to do the installation on my own ( with a little help from a friend) and everything turned out fine and is workin.
