I am trying to put together what I want, but I am not sure what would work best.

This is for my 04 GA. First off, I have an Alpine CDA-9856 Headunit. Specs (http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/products/product.php?model=CDA-9856&lang=en&tab=F)

For now I am keeping the factory speakers, I think they sound pretty good, and until I have to get new ones, I am not going to.

I want to get a sub/amp. I am on a pretty strict budget. I have been thinking about getting 1 Alpine type S 12" sub. I listen to EVERYTHING, I want the bass to be tight and quick for rock, but I also want it to be deep and pound for rap. I am wondering if I should go with a 10" sub, or 12"? I would like to get 2 10's but I can't afford it, and also I don't want to take up all my trunk space. As far as the amp, I think I am going to get a Profile AP700M (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-pZxOKIlBkUz/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=ap700M&i=489AP700M) . What do you guys think I should do? I am open to any suggestions, I just don't want to spend a whole lot of money, I buy all my stuff off ebay brand new to save a little.

Thanks for the help

I'd stay away from Profile if you can... The deck was an awesome choice. Alpine makes great HU's. If you're only going to go with a 1 sub setup, go with a 12". The Type-S's rule, so if you already made up your mind on those, stick with it.

I've read alot of good reviews about the amp, and the price is pretty good. Actually, I've never read anything bad about this one. I do think I am going to go with the 12" Type S. What other amps would power this sub well, and be in about the same price range?

this amp has almost the same power, around the same price, but is a pioneer amp

Anyone else have any opinions? Also how do you think the factory speakers will hold up to my Alpine head unit? I really like the way they sound right now, but they are only being pushed by rthe factory base model cd player. I think they will be fine for awhile.

Also another question- Since my HU has a preout just for a sub, and all the HU also has adjustablility for the sub, do I have to run the bass through the factory speakers, or can I make just the sub take most of it? Thanks again for the help!

^the factory speakers will be fine with thr new HU
I have my Pioneer HU pushing my factory speakers and there are no problems, they sound better than with a stock HU

For Bass, you can just use the subs if u want, i put a little bass on the speakers, but thats just me, it sounds more balanced that way.....but with the subs on you can't tell anyways, so it doesn't really matter

Yeah, thats what I meant, I want some bass through the speakers, but I want most to the sub

I run a Type S 12" off a Pioneer GM-7100 amp and love it (check my cardomain for pics and such). I think you'll be very happy with the sub.

As far as bass through your speakers, I keep most of my bass on my sub but I always keep a bit up front on my comps. The Type S pounds great but it tends to sound a little hollow if you filter out the bass completely from the fronts. The best thing is to get it installed and then just mess around with your low pass filters. Let us know how it works out for ya.

Type S bumps, you will be happy with that sub. I'd go with a sealed box with about 1.25-1.5 cubic ft. Should Be low enough for rap and have a tight response for rock.

I've had a single 12 inch Type S for over a year now and it still sounds great. I have it in a slot-ported box and it is louder than when I had it in a sealed box and it sounds just as tight when I listen to rock.

As for the amp, I've been looking for a new one and Hifonics' Brutus series has been looking good to me.

FYI: I noticed that my Type S had a "break-in period" where it sounded good, but not as loud as I expected. Then, one day it got louder and tighter and began to sound better all around.

Okay, to run the amp at 2ohms, I need dual 4 ohm voice coils, correct?
