I ordered this intake quite a while ago (terrible service from the company)

My car is a 1998 grand am gt coupe 3.1. I dont know if i was trying to install it right or wrong but if im right the IAT sensor is to big for the whole on the intake.

is the iat sensor the sensor that plugs into the stock air filter box? and is there an easy fix to this ? thanks for the reply

I had Stage 2 Intake for my GA. The IAT sensor should fit. You might want to use some grease to squeeze it in.

woah your in iowa too, im in des moines. would it matter if its a different year? and its no way close to fitting. my friend said file the sensors edge but i dont want to do that seeing how it should fit in the first place. plus i dont want to do something to my car that might not work anyways, im not a mechanic lol

Well if they say it will fit your model year, it should fit. But I would recommend ditching that WAI for CAI. I made that move and it is so much better performance wise.

I am glad to see another Iowan. :D

Yeah, well in the order form it says it will fit on both. but different makers of intakes have two different models for the different engine type. I took out the little washer thingy and it still wouldnt fit over the sensor, and i wrestled with it a good 15 minutes.

suprised theres not a bunch more people from iowa on here. seeing how populated it is. lol but there are a sure lot of grand ams and grand prixs here.

PLEASE HELP SOMEONE

So i decided to make the intake work, went down and bought a grommit assortment pack, a file and caliper. The plan was to file the hole bigger, clean the parts so no shavings, and put it in. i have done so and it sounds like a beast, but the check engine light is on and wont go off, the local shop here refused to look at it since its been modified, is this normal, please someone help. The accelorator also doesnt feel like it goes down as far as it did and it sometimes feels like it takes longer to shift , please please help... im beggining to think i should never work on cars..

the IAT sensor is a tight fit with the grommet that comes with it, but I made it work on mine.

Make sure nothing is stuck in the TB that's not allowing it to go all the way down. Also, if you take it to a Autozone, they should be able to scan for codes for free. :)

Okay jiggled sensor and check engine light is off... but it still feels kind of dead, i cant get it to go into over drive, i read somewhere that you have to disconnect the battery, will that work?

1. You should always disconnect the better when playing around with any electrical such as sensors...it's a good habit to get into.

2. Yes, disconnect the battery for about 30 minutes. It'll take a little time for the computer to adjust to it.

3. As far as not going into overdrive, I don't know. It may be something that's not relatied to the CAI...conisidence???

I'm at my gf's house and closest thing in al-freakin-toona is napa connected to some shop. the size of the grommet i needed was 2 and a half, and the one that was on the intake was about a whole half a centimeter short. believe me guys i tried, it wouldnt fit. i think the sensor is different on 1998 ga
