Ive got an xplod 2200gtx amp I just installed and i was thinking of getting a little creative. On some trips for about an hour my amp gets a little hott and i wanted to be on the safe side (and give myself something to do on a rainy day) and put a fan in. I know you can get good cooling fans made just for amps and ive heard they work good, but i was thinking of taking the redneck method:cool:. I cut the wire from an extra car phone charger and was going to buy a cheap little fan,cut that wire, connect it to the car charging wire and simply plug it into the cars outlet. I know i can get it to work because i tested it out on a plug in radio, but im not exactly sure if that would actually help my amp much. I would appriciate any comments and/or reccomendations anyone has for me.

im sorry but loose the Xplod or it will Xplode on you. From what i have heard they overheat very quickly and can really do some damage later on.

I think that you will be doing alot more work than you think you will ne doing. The Fans area good idea but i wouldnt half-ass anything when it comes to car system work.

But its up to you, ill let all of the Audiophiles on here give ya some advice.

Thanks for the advice, but i really dont think that the amp overheats all that much all that quickly. From what I have heard it does however get very hott when using 2ohm subs. The only time that I have felt it get so hott that it may need a fan was on an hour long highway trip, and i dont travel much at all. Ever since I first installed the amp I keep coming up with ideas of things to do and I thought this would be a fun project, but if it isnt going to be good for the system i will definitely stay away from it.

I know one person that did the setup your going to do. Built a box and has a relay for the fans to pull the heat out and bring in the cool air. Really nice idea. It will be good for the system, no worries on that. :) (i wont post the pic because i dont have their permission to use it)

Do a search here on he fourms and google it for ways to set up fans and such. The search button on here is going to be your friend...take advantage of him

I would look at another amp because most of the people here will tell you that any sony car audio product is crap (not every person, but you get the idea.)

BTW welcome to the club! :welcome:

Thanks for the welcome and more advice. If i do happen to stick with operation: redneck amp fan:lol: I will try to take some pictures and give more info on the setup.

Believe me, I've used the search plentttyyy of times and 4/5 times I find exactly what I'm looking for, these really are great forums.

About the amp and xplod in general...ya i know its nothin to brag about, but hey i got the amp almost half price brand new.

I would really appreciate everyone's opinions on this setup idea.

Heat is your enemy when is comes to electronics. The fans are a good idea to keep everything cool. My class D never gets hot, rarely does it get even warm to the touch. If you ever want to upgrade, i would go with class D which is designed for subs. Much more efficent. But Xplod stuff is ok for a beginner system! Welcome to the club!!

Fans are never a bad idea...there's no such thing as too much air when it comes to electronics, but remember, just because an amp is hot doesn't mean it's overheating. If it's hot on the outside, that means it's getting the heat out of the inside....where tempurature matters. :)

Efficientcy is the key...the more effiecient, the less energy wasted, and energy is heat. Hence the reason class D amps kick ass for subs. :)

Hey thanks guys and I think im gonna keep goin with the idea.

At first i was going to get the class D amp but I got a great deal on the 2 channel and i couldn't resist.

I also plan on getting a couple underdash led's and maybe a little one for the pocket under the knobs. I'll get the fan done first and then the lights, then I'll probly take a few pictures...if i can figure out my digital camera. I'm not sure..but i think im addicted to cheap interior modifications.
