I had a viper remote starter installed into my car. It is giving me two problems. First all of the lights blink most of the time i start my car just like as if i started it with the remote starter. Hitting the brake dosn't stop it. Also i can not remote start the car without disabling the alarm. I don't really carea bout having to disable the alarm b ut i can no longer live with the blinking lights any ideas?

Sounds like it was installed wrong. Very wrong. I would go back to the installer with these issues - they are certainly install/programming issues, not the alarm/RS itself.

Yup especially if you had it installed professionally just take it back to them before you touch it.

Viper(DEI) stuff is geally good quality. Sounds liek the problem may be with the install.

So it should work with out having to disarm the alarm? I THOUGHT so. I KNEW the installlation was botched.

Right. Sounds like they either goofed up the passlock bypass or starter disable relay.

Ok i took it back to the place that installed the remote starter and apparently the dealer installed an aftermarket alarm. They couldn't fix the fact that i need to disarm the alarm to remote start it -- is there anything i can do?

:bs: Other alarm or not, a competent installer should be able to avoid that.

That is just their way of saying "Umm we don't know what the f*** we are doing" without actually saying it.

:bs:

Somethign is definitely not setup correctly with that install, I have a Viper 791XV I installed myself, I am no pro, but mine works flawlessly. Remote start with the alarm armed, the lights blinked when the car was remote started....untill I disabled that feature..... Sounds like this installer does not know what they are doin....

Is there anyway i can fix this myself? If they are incompetant i don't want to really take it back to them. Frankly i am very annoyed at this.

I would keep taking it back till the Dumb ass that installed it did it right.

Don't sound like they know what they are doing.
You should be able to start it armed, unarmed. Hitting the brake should kill the car untill the key is turned on.

I would not try to fix it myself, Take the sucker back and tell them you will continue taking it back till they install it the correct way.

the 791 has a wire that sends a - pulse before cranking. (Light green w/ black stripe). If the "dealer installed" alarm has a - disarm wire, these two wires just need to be hooked up. Doing this will disengage the dealer installed system before the vehicle is remote started, but your DEI will still be armed until you disarm it from the remote.

The trick is figuring out the dealer installed alarm. Who ever dd the 791 install should have removed the other system. Or at least called you once they discovered it.

My bad. I thought you got an alarm/remote start unit. Either way that remote start will still have the factory disarm wire (light green w/black stripe).
