i realize this has been brought up in many threads before, but i havent been able to find a straight answer. first off, its a 2003 grand am GT, with the monsoon system.
how do i go around the monsoon factory amp? i installed a Eclipse CD5000 hu, and used the neucleus NC-GM39B chime module. now, my chime works, and my RAP(retained accessory power) works (10 minute radio after key is off), but i have no music coming out of my speakers. they make the pop when the car is turned on or off, and when i hooked up another speaker right to the deck, it played music. the rest of the stereo will be going in shortly (amp/subs), but i had wanted to keep stock speakers if possible. anybody who has bypassed the stock amp, please offer up some opinions, i would like to get back to work on this tomorrow if possible (its saturday night my time)

if your going to upgrade and get a sub i would get aftermarket speakers too. the monsson system is pretty good but you can get much better. get a four chanel amp and run all the speaker wire to it then the patch cable to the receiver. i dont know how to "bypass" the stock amp though. try carstereoexpo.com thats where i got most of my stuff. or crutchfield.

It doesn't sound like a monsoon problem, it sounds like you didn't wire something in the harness right. Did you do any cutting and splicing to get that harness to work?

pretty hard to look cool right about now. solved my problem. the neucleus module is a plugn play. on one side, its got a 10 pin power plug, and 2-12 pin ports 1 for bose/amplified system, one for standard speaker system. on the other side, its got an 8 pin onstar plug, and 2 ports, one for bose, one for standard. i had the plug in the bose one, and it should have been in the standard. so now i have speakers that work, but this brought up another question, when my music is playin and the door is open, the door speaker will chime, but not play music, so i close the door and once the chime quits, then the music kicks back in. is this what happened to others when you installed aftermarket?

That's probably what happens when you don't use a Metra adapter... How much was this "neucleus" module? I've never even heard of it before.

I had to install a chime module when I replaced my head unit, however, I ran all new speaker wire to all factory locations to utilize a 4 ch amp, I only used the module for switched power and radio after key, I did not use a metra,(do not rmemeber brand from local audio shop) but, on some of the modules, like mine, if you do not have the BOSE system, you have to cut off the rca plugs, and hook the wires to you head unit speaker leads, it feeds high level input to the monsson amp, re-read your instructions, and make sure. Good Luck.
