Widest tire on a stock rim?

Just wondering what is the widest tire I could fit on a stock 02 SE rim. I have 215/50-15's on it right now. Would a 225 fit? Want better traction for the track. Or I might buy a pair of cheap GT wheels since they are 16 inch and see if I can put a 235 tire on those.

By track, do you mean a 1/4 mile drag strip?

Personally, I think that the stock 6.5" wheels should support a 205 or 215. 225 looks a bit too wide. I think 235 would be much too wide.

If you know what tire you want, look at the manufacturer's website. Most times, they will give you the range of allowable wheel widths, and the optimal wheel width. For 235, I'd say that 7.5" would be the minimum width in most cases.

Thanks for the info. Can't find a good tire in the 215 size, but Nitto makes a Nt555R in 205/50-15. Might happen to get them, but not till later until I get the turbo kit on and the nitrous hooked up.
