I just got a sirius satelitte radio, and my cig lighter is broken. I took a look at the fuses, and I couldnt find one that was designated for just the lighter, like my old car..

Which fuse should I bee looking for? And if it isnt a fuse, what do you guys think it'd cost to just be replaced?

Btw, this is a 2001 gt

... I believe it is under the hood :)

Ya there is a fuse box under your hood, you just have to unscrew something to get to it, it's easy. The guide on the fuse box cover will show you where it is, its a 20.

It's one of those tiny fuses, too. Mine blew this week.

if it isnt a fuse, worst case...how much of a pain is it to just replace the inner workings?

i blew that fuse a few weeks ago taking some change out of my cup holder and i accidently dropped a dime and it perfectly landed in the cig. lighter ... just my luck

oh you want to talk about a good story with a lighter
a few buddys of mine were on their way back from hunting in south dakota, and on the drive back one of them was plugging in their phone to charge it, and there was a loud bang, and a small explosion in the lighter...........
there was a .22 bullet in there that went off when the charger made contact with the lighter, luckily no one was hurt
but anyway, where is the underhood fuse box, and what fuses are in their?

The engine fuse box is on the drivers side between the air filter and the fire wall. There a fuse list on the cover.

On the 92-95's it is the "CTSY" fuse (15 amp) which is in the drivers door jamb (only) fuse panel.

thank god no one got hurt that is a weird situation though i never heard of anything like that

i had a bunch of impatient friends in my car and we were in a parking lot of a resturant and it was pitch black so i had them using cell phones to help me see the pannel and once i found the fuse i went into my trunk to get a new one and realized i didnt have a 15 amp i had everything lower which again is just my luck, and it was a pain in the ass getting that dime out of the lighter.. just a hint never let one fall in there;)

yeah it was really weird, not the strangest thing that happened on that trip by far (if you can believe that) but to be honest i'm surprised something like this didn't happen to them sooner than it did

On the 92-95, if you're in a bind to remove that short, it's fairly easy to unhook the supply plug from the back of the lighter socket if you remove the cupholder/ashtray. But... nothing really vital on the CTSY fuse anyway... you can certainly make it home with it blown.

I watched an episode of mythbusters where some redneck hunters were hunting in some swamp, and were heading back in their pickup truck at night when their headlight fuse blew (glass fuses) so they replaced it with a bullet. shortly after the bullet went off and sacked the driver (fuse panel under the dash), causing him to crash into a tree.

apparently after surgery they survived tho.

the current draw from the lights was enough to heat the bullet enough to set it off; however they claim the probability of it hitting the driver in the crotch was very rare.

Are you positive that it is your cig lighter? I know my dad has got sirius a little while ago and the unit malfunctioned and would not turn on. He thought it was the cig lighter too until he heard someone else had the same problem. He called and got a new unit sent to him for free. Have you plugged anything else into it to make sure its not working?

we don't know, the .22 is just a rimfire round, it doesn't need a hammer to hit it in the primer like normal bullets. But seeing as it wasn't in a barrel, the pressure more than likely just made it explode, and i doubt the bullet actually went too far....but yes very lucky...
they didn't actually know wtf happened until the guy in the passenger seat found the casing.

I ahd the same problem, when I took my dash aprat to rig in my subs, theres a wire runnign to it from something else, can't remeber what at the time, but that was unplugged. plugged it back in and it didn't work. Check the fuses, mines a 15 mini. They should be on the driver side dash when you open the door. Well at least that's how it is on my 97. Be careful when you go to test the ciggarette lighter, I pushed it in and the son of a bit** shot back out at me all red hot.

If I recall the power from the battery directly could make the bullet "pop" but not really fire. They said the force wouldn't have made it through his clothes. The power in the headlights would NOT set the bullet off. I doubt the cig would either. The pop was probaly the electricity arcing.
