View Full Version : How do you remove headlights
I have some condensation in my drivers side headlight and I have been told that drilling a couple holes in the bottom will correct the problem. If anyone has ever removed a headlight from an '03 Grand Am could you please tell me how its done, pictures would help. I have located the two screws above the light but cannot figure out how to access the rest. Please help.:(

That method doesn't work because the headlight is attached to another plastic piece that goes all the way across the front. It looks like you would have to mess with the headlight alignment screws to remove it, is there another way??

Ive no idea, i havent ever played with a 99+ GA in anyway. ar eyou talking about the ram air shroud that goes across everything? that should just be clipped in place somehow. someone with a 99+ might have to chime in on how to do this.
but i do know theres only one method to remove them as all 99+ are the same for headlights.

It's really easy, like the instructions said, after taking of the shroud, there are two "speed clips". They are right behind the alignment screws, pull the top back a little, and pull straight up. The whole headlight assembly comes out easliy after that. When putting it back in, guide the two square peices attached to the alignemnet screws into their slots, and slowly push it in until the round plastic end peices of the alignement srews show throgh enough to put the "speed clips" back in.

A couple of things.
Don't touch the star shaped adjusters - ever - unless you know that the light needs adjusting. They break easy.
Another thing that breaks easy is the ring that holds the main bulb in, just snug it up unless you like buying new parts from the dealer.
I remove the speed clips by prying them to the rear while pulling up. They have a little tab that has to clear before they can move up.
The light has a hole (vent) in it already. It's below the bulb behind the amber reflector. Sometimes condensation gets in from around the lens seal or the bulb seals.
When installing the light, make sure the bottom leg is in it's socket. It's easy to miss and it will push the bottom of the light out and it will shine into the trees. Don't touch the adjusters.....
Thanks for all the advice, I was able to remove the headlight and dry it out but I won't drill holes unless it fogs up again.:)
