when i go to start it up it takes a long time to start and then when it finally turns over its kind of rough for just a second then runs just fine. but it does this when it has been sitting for a while. but if i start it then run it for some time and then start it up again then it will start just fine and smooth. im wondering if this has anything to do with the battery holding a charge or the alternator maybe but i need help since im not a mechanic but have some knowledge.

I'm guessing battery. The alt seems to be charging it, else it would always crank slow. If you run for a few the alt gets the battery charged up, so it starts fine. let it sit and the battery run low.
If it is the battery it don't have LONG left.

Hey Chiefer did you check your battery yet? Is it still giving you problems?

My guess is you might have a cracked head or leaking head gasket. When the car is cold..the crack expands and lets water into the cylinder...which does not compress like air. The water causes strain on the starter and causes the engine to run rough. Once it does start and heat starts to build...everything seals and it starts to run smooth again. Mine did the same thing. The only good news is it lasted for about a year until it got the the point of no return

If I'm not mistaken metal expands from heat, not cold.

your right! metal shrinks...the crack widens...metal expands the crack closes...:agree:
