This may sound like a stupid question..but I just changed my oil and oil filter and I was wondering how much oil a 1995 Grand Am V6 3100 actually holds? I put in 4 and a half quarts but I am not sure how much exactly for next time. When I checked my oil it looked full... but I am not sure. Thanks in advance! ;)

About 4.5 Quarts should do it. Mine needs 5 quarts to fill it exactly, I use the oversized PF52C which is about 1/2 quart bigger.

WHat type of filter you use?
You can use a AC Delco pf-52 oil filter and 5qts of oil, that
will put you just a little over full witch won't hurt a thing,
plus your getting the benefits of an oversized filter(better
flow more media to catch dirt etc.)
just don't use a FRAM,,please!!!
by the way nice car. ;)

Hehe. Oil changes are scary the 1st time for that exact reason. Yeah, 4.5-5 is about right. What I do is filler till shes full, then run it about 20 mins, let it cool 10 and check it again (filter needs to fill up ect..).

thatwill put you just a little over full witch won't hurt a thingDon't overfill your crankcase . It's bad for the seals , and the oil will be whipped by the crank causing it to become aerated . Air is not what the pump was designed to circulate ....

I have to disagree, going by my own experience
the little bit(less than 1/2qt with the oversized filter) that it's over filled
will not harm any seals what so ever.
I have been doing this for 15 years now and not ONE of my
GM cars have ever leaked, now i woundn't want to put it
1-1/2 qt over, but that little bit does no harm, if it did i would
have known by now i think.
Plus the 3100's have a windage tray that covers the bottom
of the engine(crank) impossible for the oil to get to it, unless
very over filled.

Wait till you do your plugs.. unless your 3100 is one of the nice ones that tips ahead.. on my 99 3400, those back ones had some nice words flying from me and my cousins mouth.. and beer consumption tripled for that hour..
