Whoa... this is how you learn. Check your owners manual.

Yes, the owners manual is your friend. Start there and then come back to us with questions.

i hate that thing.. can someone just give me a list maintnence ...the owners manual is based on how the car should run throughout its lifetime....i want a complete simple list... a shopping list that i can just print out on 1 or 2 pieces of paper and follow it over the years.....is that to much to ask?

We're doing this for your benefit, Ryan. See, if we write you up a list, you'll print it off, follow it, but afterwards, you won't remember any of it because you didn't take the time to learn it. I mean, we can tell you to do something, but you should learn why you have to do something. Put a little work into it, Ryan.

Please don't be mean with it Ryan. Who is gonna wanna write you a checklist after you called them an ignorant b**ta*d. In the time that you took writing these questions you could have found what you needed on any car car website or everywhere using the search feature. Just try to give it a go and don't expect everyone to write up a whole list when you could figure it out yourself.

The people are indeed being jerks. However each car is different and you have to feel it out for what maintenance has been done and what hasen't. Beyond that our cars are very easy to maintain.
I guess the place to start is check for oil leaks. After that do an oil and filter change. Next have the coolant fluided checked for cleanliness and protection. Possibly get a fuel filter but no one has been able to tell me how to KNOW that ones bad. Also check the pcv valve just because it's so easy to do, but they rarely go bad.
Beyond that the car doesn't need plugs and wires and anything else (brakes, steering and alignment etc.. ) depends on wear out time and abuse.

Actually to be technical the second post from Tbird does count as ignorant and bastardly so it fits. This isn't high school so we can dispence with the talking down to people, and I'm sure Ryan picked up on the condecenstion in that post.
If you personally are to lazy to help someone with a problem then don't reply to the post at all.

Well im sorry we were trying to help him out, and i think that the laziness lies within the person who wants other people to make an entire list of tuneups for him when he could look it up himself. If he would do some research we would gladly respond to any other questions he would have about the subject.

Exactly! I used the owner's manual as a baseline of what normally had to be done, then looked at the repair/service receipts and went from there to what had to be done soon.

Speaking of condescending...
Why don't you point out exactly which parts of my second post were "talking down" and "bastardly?" Because I took the time to explain why no one had gone and done all his thinking for him?

Exactly. Would you let someone copy off your test during a final exam? Hell no. If he wanted the answers, he should have put forth the effort in class. Well, Ryan could have easily spent the last day using the the Search function and gotten all his answers. And you, b2089, could have gotten off your damn high horse.

That's the problem. This isn't a competition and this isn't class. This is a board where we SHARE INFORMATION. It can be confusing for new people and often the searches bring up dozens of pages with threads just like this, no info and recomendations to search.
That and the car has one schedule, the dealers advise something more to get money all the while saying it's needed to "add to the life of your car", people on the net advise even more work because to them it's a hobby and not real maintenance, and then everyone disagrees about which is best. There isn't even a clear answer to how often to change the oil, much less more detailed maintenance schedules. It can be very hard on people who don't have motor oil in their veins. We all start somewhere.

I started off on this website without a clue of how to do anything to my car. I studied alot of forums and sure the searchs werent always what i was looking for, so i just kept going through searches to find what i was looking for and eventually i did. Since entering the owners club i have installed an amp/subs, underdash cold cathodes, and vent leds. I am planning on making a fiberglass subwoofer box and maybe tinting my windows. I did make a couple threads asking bits of information after i did all the research, but nothing huge like a 2 page list.
From what im hearing it doesn't even look like ryan has searched a single thing because if he did he probably wouldn't still be asking. So Ryan, please just try to be more independent and figure some things out on your own.b2089,you're criticizing everyone about not giving out a list of info, but all you did was give him a couple sentences of things to do when he asked for a 1-2 page list. Just let him figure things out on his own, it will allow ryan to not only learn what he needs to do, but how to do it.
Sorry if this is kind of long, but how about all of us just try to get along so we can keep this forum the best that ive ever been to.

Well I told him that there wasn't much needed. Here's a pic from the Haynes Manual but I don't go by it. It's good to check these things, but you don't replace them as often as Haynes recomends.

Well it wasnt all for me i wanted a basic list of month to month task to check on the car....such as b2089 had the manual just in a simple forum and i dont need time periods... i was looking for a 1 reply that maybe we could make a sticky on the forums first page so that everyone could go under general maintences and actually find a list of general maintences i dont need to know to do everything i just wanted to know what everything was . so if someone could just make me a simple list i would appreciate it ....im changing the brakes and doing a oil change...and for those of you giving me the bullshit you dont take time....i have....i had to take of the door panel because the power window went out....i have learned about gear ratios, 4 cycle engines, turbos superchargers cold air intakes so all i want is a checklist not a manual.

Just fair warning Ryan, that stuff doesn't fly around here........but since you haven't been on here for very long I'll overlook it this time. That's not the way to start off on the right foot.
I think what the guys are trying to say is if you look in your owner's manual you'll find the factory recommended maintainence schedule.
So here is my advice to you, open the book and make your own condensed check list. Then if you really want to contribute post it and I'll make it a sticky.
I'm betting that after you do you'll learn more than you would if we did it for you.
Think of it as if the "Old Guy" just gave you some homework. ;)

After reading through the first page, that's exactly what I was going to say.
Everybody does tune-ups differently, I think. Some do nothing at all, while others change everything on their car every two weeks. Its not really "black and white," but its got a lot of grey areas. You don't have to change your oil every 3000 miles like the manual says (yeah yeah..change oil light..blah blah :P ), because it really just depends on how you drive and keep up with the car.
