I bought my car on June 21st (2006), with just under 84,000 km on it. I'm now at 85, 750 km, and this a.m. when I started the car, the Change Oil Light came on. Now I'll admit I haven't been driving it like my grandma would, but wasn't THAT rough on it. I haven't contacted the dealership yet, but I'm assuming they did an oil change right before I picked it up, and since it was purchased @ GM, I'm also gonna take a wild shot in the dark, and assume that they know how to reset the sensor. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be going on? I was planning on taking the car on a trip to Montreal this Saturday (500km round trip), but now I'm a little reluctant to do so! I didn't check the oil yet (didn't have time before work), but will do so tonight.

Typically if the light isn't on then the people doing the change don't think to reset it. Pull the dipstick and look at the oil. It should be light brown to dark brown. The darker it is the more likely it will need an oil change.
I would however take it to them and ask about it. You may get a free oil change being that it's their fault they didn't reset the light. Youve had the car only a month so they need to make sure everything is kosher.
At any rate I'd bet good money they didn't reset the light and it's no big deal.

But shoot for the free one...that way you know for a fact when it was changed and that the Oil Life Manganment System is in sync. :)

thx for the reply - after my last lemon (Sunflower), I was thinking "here we go again..." lol. I already have a free oil change from them, but I'll definitely ring them up later! :-)

You should never assume, many GM dealers are flat out shisters and want ONLY the most money they can screw you out of, Sorry if I offended anyone. Oil changes are inexpensive so if you change it or pay to change it it will be done and no worries. But as said above, check the color on the dipstick, golden color is new, brown to black probably should be changed.
