remove key from ignition

I bought a 96 Grand Am about 3 months ago.
The key will sometimes not turn all the way off.
I have moved in and out of Park. Can't think of any thing else.
Is it the ignition? or is the switch for placing it in Park going out?

Welcome to the site... there is a switch on the underside of the steering column that is a manual override for the ignition for key removal. Look at the underside fo the comuln you will see a little "trapdoor" that you ned to pop off with a screwdriver. then you can use your left ring finger(what i find easiest to use) to reach up in there and push the button, which you push towards the drivers door. Hold the button down while turning the key off and it will come right out every time.
