Can i just remove the resonator to get a better sound from my exhaust, and replace with a piece of straight pipe. Playing Dr Frankenstien... lol will it cause any problems..

That's what I'm doing! how loud is it without the resinator?

taking off the resontor will make it just sound perfect, its not gonna make it A LOT louder, but it will get louder, and you will get a little more rumble, but its real nice, its really deep too.....peopel say w/ flows you dont get that deep sound, but imo its nice and deep w/ my setup

i just want it to be a little louder... it sounds kinda deep already, when i romp it. but it is really quiet.

All right, don't make fun of me or nuthin' but whats a resonator?

Its the piece between the cat and the rear axle that looks like another cat that car companies put on to make the exhaust more quiet for your everyday drivers.

So taking it off makes the car sound louder. Is it a good thing to do, I mean it dosn't hurt anything when you take it off dose it. And is it difficult to do?

yeh it makes it a bit louder, it dosent really help in performance taking it off and it wont hurt to do it....pretty much i just took my car to an exhaust shop and they replaced it in like 5 min w/ another pipe....$30 bucks....if you dont have anywhere around here...bring ur ass down here to BH and ill take you there....

Yes it helps, our resonators kinda kill our performance on the GA.

um, how do you figure that? Considering it's a STRAIGHT pipe with insulation...it doesn't hurt performance at all and taking it off won't help you any.

i have to disagree :P

Its funny that you can't listen to what other people are saying. removing a straight through pipe isn't going to help performance any at all. The resonator is designed to RESONATE, it's almost like a glasspack in that it is just a straight through pipe with insulation (resonators don't use fiberglass i dont believe).

ok ok ok ,,, i was just joking gezzzzz... Dont have to be like that

Does removing the resonator make the car louder at higher or lower rpms? I still have the resinator on my ride and it's very loud at 2,000 rpms, but after 3,000, the exhaust tone just seems to dissapear.

well.... I do know that it will get louder low and top end.... somtimes.... they are known to get a bit raspy up top with out the Resonator

i would say it makes it louder at lower rpms

That's what I was afraid of, I want it to be louder at the top end, but if I'm just driving around town my exhaust plenty loud at low rpms......I just don't want to upset the girls too much cause that won't be good.

Don't back down so quickly. ;)

The resonators are Helmholtz Resonators. Similar to glasspacks but they contain no sound absorbing materials (Fiberglass). Instead it uses a reflecting approach. Reflecting is changing direction of exhaust gasses and redirection is an energy consumption. So on a theoretical and large scale model a resonator does restrict gas flow although not a whole lot. On a 500HP Viper or Vette you would not want a resonator on your car. In our case of 160HP you would never really tell a difference.

IMHO

what size pipeing did you ahh use when u took it off...

i took mine off and got a lil better throttle response...but that could be becuz the cat went with it...o well

So if the removing the res. doesn't really help perf. much, Y not replace the muff. with something that will sound better & improve perf.?

1992grandam

for some reason the 3.1 engines get alot quieter once they hit 3rd-4th gear....seems kinda starnge to me......and syclone.....jus replacing a muffler is not going to increase performance, but asd i said, when i removed my cat and res, and replced my stock muffler with a cherrybomb turbo II muffler i did feel some increase in performance
