I forgot to ask.
I noticed in some pictures that many people removed the drivers headlight.
Realistically speaking...Are you shaving any time by removing the headlight? I know why the headlight gets removed. But has any GA owner tested their time slips enough to know if it really helps?
Just wondering is all.

Well i dont know if its ever been tested but my 2003 4dr se ran a 15.690 @ 86.49mph with only a cai no exhaust work at all, without the headlight.

I gained 1/10 of a second w/o the headlight, and that has been repeated over the past 4 years. I have a WAI, but the results seem to be the same with a CAI or the stock intake, as the air inlet is directly behind the driver's headlight. However I will admit that the testing isn't exactly scientific or exact, but last year I made 2 runs with the headlight in, and then 2 with it out. And I gained a tenth on the second 2 runs.

I tried to sleep, but it's not working well. Evan won't leave me alone! I think he missed his Dad.

And for #2, I figured it's be OK since the pics were taken with my lens.

Not sure if this applies to the GA so much but this is the reason for seeing the GP guys(especially the GTP guys) without the headlight at the track.

Removing the headlight allows fresh COLD(ambient) air to be sucked in rather than having air sit and warm up. this colder air allows for cooler IAT's(Intake Air Temp) the cooler IAT's allow for cooler charge(more are+more fuel=more power) but in all honesty, this doesn't do a whole lot, it does some, but not a large amount, the biggest reason for doing it is since the IAT's are lower it also makes the charge harder to ignite which means its less likly to pre-detonate which makes it safer engine wise. you might be thinking, why do you have to do this at the track yet you can keep it streeted? here is why, how often do you run the car WOT for 3 full gears? not to often. combustion temps are quite hot by the time the engine is spining 5k rpm in 3rd gear.

hope that makes sense.

I dropped a solid tenth of a second in my truck removing it. I also gained a solid 1.5 mph by lowering my tailgate. Some alos lower the tire pressure to 28psi or so. Putting it in 3rd gear and shutting of the ETS is another little trick.

Every little bit helps, I know a certain someone who removed just about her entire interior one year trying to hit her ideal ET.

For this year's runs, I ran 28 psi in the front tires, 34 psi in the rear. Full interior, but the spare tire was removed, as was my sub/amps. Only other non-street trim was the headlamp removed.

ETS off, All electrical off, shifter in '2' until after the 1-2 shift, when I bump it into '3'. Brake torqued to aboot 1500 RPM. The result? My personal best. :)

Katie, I dropped over 2/10 of a second this year from last. :)
