wtf 180mph dude my 96 gt only has 115mph speedo on it. that's kinda messed up lol.

nice car. white isn't too bad of a color for a grand am. not too many cars look good in white though. cuz it hides too many curves.

I think ninteen88ga might have meant the odometer as well though...

Changing from miles to km is a really easy calculation. It's just a factor of 1.6... Divide km by 1.6 to get miles; multiply miles by 1.6 to get km.

232,347 km is roughly equivalent to 145,217 miles.

Not bad but it is the first time I saw a Canadian cluster :)

As for the speedo, I was confused also. The orange at the end was all I saw and it says MPH.

An old trick was to take a speedo out of a canadian car and re-calibrate it for MPH. With modern computers you can't do that anymore, but the face off one might work if you can get it calibrated.

??? What kind of "trick" is this? I don't get it. If you have a Canadian car, in Canada, you would want the metric cluster. Yes we actually use the metric system, LOL. Our posted road signs are in km/h, km and m--so believe it or not it works out nicely having a car with those units. It's not like we all somehow want to have our cars to have American instrumentation... :roll2: (Or vice versa--I don't get why an American would neceessarily want to change their IPC to a Canadian one???) And both clusters are calibrated for both MPH and km/h either--hence the two sets of markings!

As for "re-calibrating" you're right you don't need to do that on cars with "modern computers" LOL. If you swap the IPC from a metric to a US one (or vice versa), it will not need any recalibration at all. It will simply then operate fine. The IPC gets the same serial data from the PCM, whether it's a Z49 cluster or an American one. The only difference is the way the IPC interprets and displays that information.

That's not the point. It was a trick because we would then have a 180 speedometer and it would be calibraed to be 180 MPH, you just ignore the km/h. It started in the late 70s I think when in the US all cars were temporarily forced to have 110 mph maximum speedometers.

This was before you could just buy vinyl overlays and such, during the fallout of the gas crisis and the death of performance.

Yeah, I got what you meant with the re-calibration thing.

Oh okay I get what you mean now. Still what good is a 180MPH speedo going to do you in a GA? lol. But there's no way you're getting there...

PS: we all know what stock cars look like.. thats why we're here. unless you have a new mod, stock picts that arent scenic or have naked ladies wont get much attention... and is a waste of space IMO.. but im in the negative mood now.. so post some naked chic on it and i'll be back
