View Full Version : Speedbump exhaust ownage

Just sharing some "lowered car mishap" humor...

The offender... a rediculously placed plastic "despite your massive rent increases, we're too cheap to repave the old half- flat/cracking bump" speedbump right in front of my apartment...
http://fazeshift.org/pics/albums/userpics/08-09-06/DCP07806.JPG

The damage occured at a crawl... just enough to make it over the bumps, only to hit the downpipe on the plastic bump. This happened conveniently the day before the Albany meet.

What broke... the donut gasket between the exhaust manifold and the downpipe...

You're looking at the side that got crimped enough to cause a nasty-sounding leak. It's slightly blackened by the exhaust gases.
More here:

And the best pic... changing the gasket during the show and shine at the Albany meet.

Oh, thanks go to Cory (92camaroRS) for finding that replacement gasket... an odd part, being that it was not originally for a 95 GA. There's no way that bootleg Advance Auto store would have found it if you didn't get on the computer to search for it yourself. Thanks also to those working on the car with me (which was oddly kinda fun) and Kyle (insaneskippy) for lending that virgin floor jack. :bigok:

Mission status: still in the planning stages.

Once I catch up on sleep lost last weekend, the black hoodie is going on, and those plastic bumps will cease to exist.

Edit: Oh yea... unexpected side ownage...
There's a Harley edition F-150 close to my place. In the spring and fall with the windows open, the startup wakes me up just about every morning. Since I have to drive around the long way (around back) to avoid the bump (which sadly is pointless since nothing stops me from going 40+ MPH that way) I pass the truck. I set off his car alarm 3 days in a row now.

Damn speedbumps! That would have been quite the time changing it in the parking lot...lol.
It's weird because that bump doesn't look that big...

I tried to get a profile shot of it... looks tiny in my pic. The new plastic BS is at least 3" tall... enough that went I hit it while coasting 3-4 MPH in my Sentra, the car came to a dead stop. (and spun tire trying to get over it in the rain) There's already a bunch of gouges in the top where cars have been scraping. Does bother the SUV's tho... just makes it louder when they go over. But even before the plastic one, the remaining bump was big enough for me to go very slow over it, in all my cars.

why they make them so big like that I'll never understand. It's like they intentially design them to do serious underbody damage...

I say let it be till atco, then we'll have our way with it.....

Exactly my point on how useless the bumps are in the first place. And it would be one thing if kids were out playing everywhere... but I've seen zero kids in the complex... it's all yuppies and retired folks.

Not waiting that long... my Sentra is in PA at my parents... the 95 has been my daily driver. Besides... the hot summer weather helps my mission... all of the windows are closed and AC's running constantly.

The main reasion I have not droped mine.

Our streets suck. Heck that little bump is nothing.
Our normal streets have bigger bumps that that and they are not even supose to be there.

Glad you didn't damage anything.

The bumps aren't that big alone.. but for some reason, how they have em placed, it's pretty harsh, even in my equinox which is pretty high... i'm with you on tossing those things

 Ugh... asshats installed more sometime today... in the back corner near my dumpster... C-blocking all routes to parking in front of my place. I may do a solo mission tonight. I'm just about positive I can have all 3 sections of that one out within 1 minute.

Want to barrow my truck?

Hit that bitoch at about 30mph with it and you won't ever have to worry about it again. :)

^Haha... not even needed. When Cory was still here we confirmed you could lift it right out of the ground with 1 hand.

Man its crap like this why I'm afraid to lower my car. Especially where I'm living now, the roads are awful and very hilly.

I has been lowered since 2001... never ever had any problems before. It was driven daily... even in the winter (snow) back then. This bump was obviously 'engineered' very poorly... I never scrape on anything else. Additionally, the downpipe and exhaust are far from stock... this prolly would not have happened on a stock exhaust system - the downpipe hangs pretty low on my car.

I'll have to covertly snap one... let's just say the section of plastic bump closest to the camera has gone 'missing.'
