Got some new rims. Now they aren't in pristine condition but they aren't in that bad of a shape either.

just one concpet i thought of doing.. but instead of silver.. it would be polished so it would look like chrome. and what you see poorly painted black will be gloss black. just one idea. the other is only having a polished lip while everything else is black.

is it missing the center caps? what are they from?

yes they are missing the center caps. they are supposed to fit the early model corvettes. or whatever. the bolt pattern is 5x4.75
which is slightly larger then the ga's bolt patter.. which is 5x100 (5x4.5)... so yea i will have to get adapters for them.. which isn't much. and possibly some custom center caps. haven't thought all that much about that yet though.
but can't beat that considering i paid a whopping 35 bucks for all 4 rims. was at one of those antique auction places. they didn't know what they had. lol.

I like the look but good luck changing out that pattern on the wheel stud assembly. It's going to be very hard.

no all you gotta do is buy 2 inch thick wheel adapters. they are like 60 bucks a piece. bolt them on and then bolt new rims on to those.
all the adapter is is a plate with new studs with the new bolt pattern. it has the old bolt pattern holes so it bolts up to the stock bolts. bolt on new rim.. viola you're done. simple as that.

Not bad, what size are they :???:

why would you spent 240 bucks on adapters and then more on the center caps for used rims? I mean, you can get certain rims for like, 100 bucks a rim...it just seems to make more sense to get a new pair, even if they arent the most expensive than to put all that money on a used pair

anyways, my first suggestion would be to NEVER open up MSPaint again, lol...master Photoshop! Not the best chop i've ever done, missed some spots...but figured it would help you see what you're talkin about...

yea well photoshop isn't working for me right now. my computer is kinda f'd up. so i can't use photoshop cs. kinda sucks cuz i need it to edit my photography.
after spending 240 bucks on adapters. plus the paint. i won't have more than 70 bucks in each rim. plus i've found out that they are about 300 dollar rims. by a company called Rota. the new rota rims go for 300 a piece. so they are or should be really good rims. but not always the case.
to each thier own right? :P

Wheel adapter, or maybe just fabricate a wheel hub to fit on your existing axles. Or just take some wheel hubs in to be redrilled. its cleaner and easier than redrilling rims.

Apparently, yeah!
I really like those rims a lot, honestly. I was kinda looking for something like that. And the way you're planning on painting them, they should be really cool.

lol no i didn't get them for 10 a piece shipped. i paid for them in a silent auction. which just means you walk in see something you like.. put your name on a piece of paper and a number and the bid you want to make. when the auction is over. they will call you if you won. i got them for the min bid. just because nobody else put a bid on them. most of the people in there were old farts anyways. lol. i waited til like 2 hours before it ended before i put a bid in. just in case there were other people bidding on it too.
how much would it cost to have some wheel hubs redrilled? i would like to keep the stock rims around though. so i want to be able to put those back on if i have/want to.
oh and in case anyone is wondering what size they are. they are 17"s

adapters will give a shit ride and i dont recommend it. please take my advice. i am a wheel/tire guru.
also, u can get 17s with tires shipped all day long for like $400 BRAND NEW, in ur bolt pattern.
bad move man, sorry

i haven't been able to find many rims that i like that i could get for a set with tires for that price. therefore i say it's not a bad move considering i kinda like these rims.
but that's your opinion and this is mine. and seeing as how you are a wheel/tire guru then perhaps you can answer my questions stated above before you commented.
EDIT: and how will adapters give a shit ride? all they do is move the tire out an inch. but then again i'm not a wheel/tire guru.

FTW?!? Rotas? they make some of the lightest rims on the market with their Slipstreams (the 15" weighs in at just over 11lbs whereas most stock rims are around 15 or so lbs).
you got good rims, Rota is the only rim company i recommend for people that want to hit the track with their cars.

Yeah... bad move? He paid 35 bucks for a set of 17" rims that he liked. WOST CASE, he could sell them on ebay and make a hefty profit... best case, he'll be rocking some decent aftermarket rims cheap. I'm not seeing where the bad move was... but I'm not a wheel/tire guru either.

I'm not a big guy on rims or anything, but I don't see how buying four 17" five spoke Rota rims for $35 is a bad move, no matter what the case. Even if you can't use them, someone can, and they'll be willing to pay more than $35. Good call on the rims, I'd buy them too.

Hell, just the scrap value of the aluminum is probably more than $35 bucks.
Of course, I'm not a metal guru !
I think they are sweet, especially for $35.
You would probably need adapters anyhow, due to the offset.
96GreenGaGT
08-16-2006, 02:19 PM
i think the offset is actually not much more. like 2mm or something. but they are 8 inch wide rims. the stock ones are 7's or something like that. i think they rub up against the strut mount or whatever. i really only need 1 inch adapters. but i'm gonna get 2 inch adapters to move the tires out an inch to give it a meaner profile.
if it's a shit ride then i'll sell the setup. but i don't think it'll be. and when they are done i should be able to get a good amount for them... if i sell. since i always try to do a professional finish on anything i do to my car.
