we are shopping for a car for my daughter. My son has a GTP which my daughter gets to drive a lot since my son is bad. she has her mind set on a GA GT and we finally drove one and she thinks it is too small and slow. i guess she has a lead foot like her brother and mom. we are looking at 98-00 cars and the GA/GP price difference seems to be pretty small. tell me why we should stick with GA's and not get a GP?

Well GTP is definitely fast with the supercharged motor, but as far as looks and handling goes, GA GT is sportier.

I like my GA but I wouldn't mind having a GP right now though. They are not as sporty, but they are roomier and probably a better car overall.

well there is also a huge difference between the GP and the GTP... if ur going with the GTP for ur daughter then id say get it but between a GP and GA id probably go with the GA because it just looks sportier...

we sold a GP GT and replaced it with a GTP. we are leaning towards a GP GT vs a GA GT. the GTP has been modded so its pretty quick. folks always want to improve their cars performance over stock and I think a 3800 motor has more options than a 3400.

3800 is definitely a better motor, but I would take GA GT over GP GT.

forget the GP. and as far as GAs go, u proly dont want the GT, i drive a 2002 SE and it is the most durable car ive ever seen. its been through a lot and still is in one piece. maintaining cost os next to nothing. my GA SE have been in about Six fender benders (a few being pretty bad) and $20 is all it took to get the touch up paint and fix the damage. never had anything wrong with it except for the windshield wipers burned out once. dealer said they were a factory deffect. anyways if you can find a GA SE with the 2.2L ecotec then u have a car that will last you a very long time. and if its well taken care of it might as well be indestructable. unless u get in a bad wreck. interestingly i hear people complaining about stuff going bad on their GA GT and yet i never have any problems. i go to the junk yard and find everything but GAs for half the day. and of the GAs there 2 are SEs. the other 4 and a half are GT (yea there half a grand am there. dunno y). granted that the ecotec wont give you the same power nor the same upgrade options but it saves on gas and still matches up with little modification. im very happy with my car. its 4 1/2 years old and looks brand new. in short the GA SE with the 2.2L ecotec is a beast. i see girls driving them around ALL the time. i think ur daughter would like it. the 2.2l ecotec Grand Am SE is excelent.and a very good buy.

lol sorry I thought that was funny
as for GA vs GP, there isn't one specific thing that's going to pop out, clouds open...etc. If the prices are the same I'd go with whatever the gal wants (assuming the gp doesn't gargle gas, I assume they don't)

I typed a whole post about this "obvious" GP fanboy, but changed my mind. So I deleted it.

Do you really want your daughter with a lead foot to be driving a big car with like 230 hp??

Personaly if I had a daughter and knew she had a lead foot, that would make my mind up and she would be getting the 4cyl grand am.

Also what part of the grand am did she find to small?
If its the back seat I would be buying her a 2 door cavalier  (ok sorry bad joke).

I just got my grand am a month ago, and have never even been in a GP so I cant really say anything other then GAGT's look cooler, and from what I can tell they handle well.

My brother has the GTP and I just got a GA GT for free. I gotta fix my GA up, but he might be willing to trade after. I've driven his car and it really is fast. The GP has a lot more space for the GA but if she is only starting to drive I dont think she will need a lot of space.

99+ GA's have a lot of improvements over older ones.

GTP for straight line performance, power and room, GA for everything else.
