I just spent the last hour going through our membership and have banned 53 new accounts for spamming. I have also taken precautions to prevent future spammers from being able to register and post.

Should you encounter a spam post, please use the 'Report this post to a moderator' link and we will take care of the offender ASAP. Please do not bother to respond to them, and certainly do not click on any of their links!

Spammers be warned: Do not bother wasting your time registering here. If by some chance you manage to post, it will be deleted within seconds, and your account, email address, and IP address will all be banned. We've got better things to do than chase you down, but I will continue doing so until you get the point.

you're pretty much guarenteed it's spam. ;)

heh, I also agree with that. Spam had gotten so bad I was even getting them via text messages on my old cell phone. Had to get a new number :\

Sadly, it's likely an automated script which is creating new accounts and spamming. The only way to truely lay the smack down on scripted spamming would be to use anti-scripting mechanisms (those crazy images with letters and numbers) during the forum registration.
