Are you sick or replacing those over priced coil houseings? I am .
And me and a buddy decided to do some thing about it.
Step 1: find some thing to cover your coils and mod and keep them water proof. I used a old first aid box.
Step 2: pull apart your coil housing as described in your haynes manual.
Step 3: find a place to mount your box ( remeber the wire harness only streches so far) I used the fire wall and remounted my relays else where.

Step 5: mount your coils and mod in box ( i was in a rush so i used wood<------- easy but not recomended)and cut hole for the plug of your mod to go through
Step 6: find a metal plate as big as or close to the back of the mod.
Step 7: now you will start to mount your box. use self taping screews and drill them to through the metal plate and in to your fire wall. MAKE SURE ITS A GOOD GROUND!!! Then mount your mod to the plate with same screews.
Step 8: strech wire harness to the plugin on the mod<---- not fun but if you free it up a little and untangle the harnes from the rest of the crap it will reach. easer with 2 ppl

Step 9: with your coils in place like mine starting from the left top
the spark for your plugs goes 3, 2 on bottom. top right 4 and then 1
Step 10: i used the springs from the coil houseing to get spark from the coils to the wires but you might use some thing different
using dieeletro grease on every conection. plus i had to alter the spark plug boots to jam them in to the coil sockets.
Step 11: run those spark wires to your plugs. On most older G.M cars you will find metal boot covers that protect the boots.... I RECOMEND YOU USE THEM.
Step 12: Tell G.M to stop making such shotty ,expencive to replace housings and coils. And enjoy the fact that you just saved your self $120 cdn for doing this job. This job should help in the aid of less burn out of your coils because you have removed them from the heat.
1 THING TO KEEP IN MIND!!!!!!! You are running 40000 volts through those coils. dont do some thing silly and shove you finger in there

:shocking: :nic:
Have a good 1

Personally I wouldn't want wires. I've only had to replace my housing once.

your smokin crack if you think that im removing my w41 Idi cover. But good tech write up, it is definatly a good option for some. Then I would go to the parts store and ask for a set of wires for the car, and then when they cant produce, take them to the car and say, see it does have them.:D

LOL no no you leave the cover on the car and run the wires through the opening on the tranny side of the engine

Wires might work OK. I found another workaround. Coil housing died on my holiday i.e. on the road! (Imagine running on 2-3 cylinders.) All I needed was a file and epoxy glue and a piece of insulation. Use file to get rid of spark-perforated plastic cover, create aprox. shapeusing insulation tape and use epoxy to fill in.
Epoxy is an excellent insulator itself so you do not have to add anything else there.
