I pulled into a gas station and filled up. Got back in the car and wnt to start it and nothing happend. It didn't even try to crank. I have an alarm which uses the starter kill when activated so I disconnected the alarm and bypassed it completely. I have done this before so I know it works. Still the car didn't start. I tried having the key in the on postition for more than 10 min, more like 15 but it still wouldn't start. The light just stays on solid and doesn't blink.

I figure it's the ignition switch, cylinder, etc that is causing a problem but I have no idea. I checked around the ingition area and the switch, well I think that's what it was got very, very hot when trying to turn the key to the start position. Maybe this is the problem, who knows. I would try to fix it myself if I could diagnose the problem but for now it's sitting at a shop waiting for the sun to come up so it can be looked at.

I haven't had any problems with my key in the past even though it is a fairly old/used key. I also have never had any starting or passlock issues before. Does anyone have any ideas of which component could be the problem?

PassLock should not cause the car to not engage the starter (it doesn't work like that). It could still be the ignition cylinder or even the ignition switch (or perhaps the recall relay/wiring, if installed); but it doesn't sound like a problem caused by PassLock (which is only responsible for enabling the fuel injectors via the R-Code to the IPC and the password to the PCM).

PassLock just isn't capable of disabling the starter...

The problem could be anything related in the wiring to the starter, but it is possible that you just have a bad starter.

Why would that light come on though if it has a bad starter? Since it is all interconnected? How would they be able to test that. I am getting charged a diagnostic fee of 1hr to start with. He said he'd push the time spent though to like 1.5 but after that he'll call me.

Lets hope it's an easy find because I'm not really in the mood to dish out $500-1000 for electronic diagnosis and repair :(

Ok, I'll retract my words...It wasn't the passlock. It turned out to be the starter. The solenoid wasn't engaging causing the current to heat up the starter.

Roland, good call buddy, you were right about the starter :thumbup2:
