Well here is the story as I sit here. The accident happened Wed the 23rd of August. I was going north on a county road going about 40mph and coming up on a s-turn, making my left handed turn around the curve.
At the top of the hill was a White Chevy Lumina Minivan going south. As the van was toping the hill, making his left turn around the curve, he blew a tire (from what I heard later). He lost control of his van and was left of center. He was trying not to hit me but that did not happen.
When I was around the turn all I saw was the van losing control and all I was thinking was "Oh No" and then I felt the hit, with my foot on the break. As of right now I still remember the hit. I was going about 40 and the van driver stated he was going about 40 to the State Trouper. I know he was driving faster than that, probably around 50.
The hard hit came and the airbag went off. I did not get out of my car, when airbag smoke in my eyes. The firemen almost had to get the Jaws of Life to get me out of my car. Got transported my ambulance to the hospital with lights and siren.
The whole frame is bent. Car should be written off (still pending). The driver of the minivan was only 17 years old.
Pictures shall be posted, the first one is the before picture (That picture is making me upset right now) that I took about 15 minutes before the accident.
I am fine, just sore. My hand, wrist, knee and foot (all on the right side) are still hurting me. My baby is gone.

Thanks Shawn!! Yea it was quite a hit. Combine both cars and it was about a 90 mph hit. Took of the next two days off from work (which will give me four days off to recover).

Yeah, even my uneducated guess tells me that this will be a write-off by the insurance. There is no way they could straighten that body properly and cheaply.
I do know how you feel though. And it really does suck. :(

OhioGrandAm

I am sore on the right side mostly (hand, knee and foot). The knee problem is because I sit close to the dash.
Yea it does look sick. Thanks for responding.

Wow, it's great that you weren't seriously injured. You'll get another car you'll love just as much, I'm sure...
My dad was in a head-on with a drunk tow truck driver a few years ago. They were both going around 60mph. I got a call from the hospital at 3am that my father was in a serious car accident... when I asked if he was okay, they just told me "Well, you need to come down here".
If he hadn't been driving an F 150, he would have been killed.... there was nothing left of that truck. It was almost a year before he could even walk again. After a couple years of surgery, and having metal rods and pins all over his body, he's about 80% of what he was before the wreck. He can walk, and function pretty normally, but he will always have pain and due to a nasty bump and gash on his head, I can tell his brain dosen't work as well as it used to (though still better than 90% of the population, I think :P). He never lost his sense of humor through the whole thing though... my uncle told him shortly after it happened "Just think of how lucky you are to be alive!!" My father respoded "If I was so goddamn lucky, you'd be laying here... and I'd be telling you how lucky you are!!"
Just wanted to try and put it into perspective for you... you may have lost a car you love, but things could be much worse.

Wow that's a harsh accident! Glad you're mainly alright, especially after seeing those pictures! You might want to consider taking more time off work, if possible, particluarly if your pain persists or worsens. Though you might not have broken bones the muscular-type pain you have may be prolonged if you go back to work early (well depends on what you do as well I guess); I'm sure the doctor(s) told you that already though...
Are you going to get/getting any physiotherapy? It can help shorten the period of time the pain affects you.
Anyway, hopefully you'll have a speedy recovery...

I am glad that I have a nice "family" that understands my loss.
I have a sitdown job, so I am going to try and go back to work on Monday. If I get into too much pain, I am going to leave. Took four days off to help recover. The hardest part is just sitting here just relaxing. That is hard for me to do. At least I have my wireless internet with laptop to keep in touch with everybody.
Just want to say thanks again, keep up the good words and good thoughs. My GA may be gone but it will not be forgotten.

08-25-2006, 12:38 PM
So Jo...Let me ask you this then. How many accidents did you have in that GA? I know none of them were your fault..
OhioGrandAm
08-25-2006, 01:09 PM
No both were not my fault but it did get hit twice with lots of close calls. Two accidents with this car.

No it never made the news but it was newsworthy. Trouble was it happened in the country. I was coming back from the Lorain County Fair in Wellington.
I think I am still leaning really heavy to the Grand Am SC/T. I hope the dealer can find one for me. Joyce Buick is really nice (well my father also retired from there).
I am in no hurry to get a replacement. Waiting for the settlement and then I might sue the kid that hit me for more. Hay he killed my baby. I am upset right now.
Maybe when I get the new "used" car I'll drive it to Brunswich to show ya.

Good luck in getting back to work and getting your life back to normal; things would get easier I would think when you have something else to occupy your time and get back into a routine. The minivan, from what I saw was not as bad as mine. The front window was cracked and the drivers door was jammed (kid could not get out). The drivers front end was crashed and the front drivers tire was DOWN (maybe it did blow out). But that is all I saw. I did not get out of my car and when I did I was on my way to the hospital.

Just looking back and reminacing. I am still injured. The right foot of all things. Had a broken bone on top of the foot and then there was muscle and tissue damage. Still in a brace and the Foot Doctor from the Cleveland Clinic said it would be about about 2 to 3 months before it is better. I think it will be longer.
