I have a 93 Grand Am SE. Unfortuantely, I think I just blew my Quad 4. I am looking to replace it with either another Quad 4 or possibly something with a lil more ooomph (maybe a V6 or something HO). Any suggestions on what motor would work well for my purposes and/or where to get it? Is there any thing with more power that is a direct drop in? I am trying to keep a moderate budget and am not wanting to go TOO crazy! Any and all help is appreciated...thanks.

Try a reputable salvage yard. As a local mechanic to point you one if you don't know any. If money isn't an problem simply order a new moter from the parts house and drop it in. That way if something turns up in it you have a local presance to work with and not some over the net website.
Also a v6 is doable but you have to switch out quite a few things from the harness to the PCM. Personally I would recommend getting a DOHC quad 4 and not a SOHC( a little more ummf).
Also what makes you think you blew your engine. You also have a 2.3 2.4 didn't come into the show tell on down the road.
Peace :D

Well upon further examination and thinking..it may not be blown. It makes a ticking noise when it is running...It sounds like something is inside the motor ticking around. I was thinking the timing maybe off or I may have even broken a rod. but either way there are several problems with it already. Theres a major oil leak and it smokes among other things. So i think replacing the motor will fix all of my problems.

use this, searchs a bunch of salvage yards and locates ones closest to your zip / postal code.
gives you the condition, mileage, and cost of an engine too.
thats what I used when I got my V6, was $300 for the engine (77,000km on it) and $200 to have it shipped to my house.
I dropped the engine in, and it has run perfectly since... even came with ignition module / coils, and power steering pump.
now i got a crapload of spare 3.3 engine parts.. might get the heads off my old engine rebuilt and port and polished and drop them in one day :)

What do i need to drop in a v6? Is the H.O. Quad 4 a direct swap for my engine now?

whole crap load of things from the motor to the mounting hardware to the electronics. Be easier to just get another car. There is a lot that goes into swapping in a different engine.
Peace :)
