ok since i have 205/50/r16's and i just recently lowered my ga (stock tires) and i need new tires... i was thinking of going with a 205/55/16 but i also saw a tire 215/55/16.... i know the first of the 2 will work on my stock rims, but will the 215/55? the idea is i want to get a lil more side wall height so i can clear my driveway a little more....
also, for everyone that has new tires on their stock rims, what do you all go with? my budget its around 500 bucks, my buddy has a tire in mind (the one with the lightning) so i think ill prob go with what he told me, i just forget what it was:( but i want to see what actual ga owners say before i decide :)

Stock tire size is 225/50R16. A 205/55R16 will have a sidewall that's 0.3" taller, and a circumference that's 1.4" longer than stock. That means you will be travelling 1.8% faster than your speedo displays. You will also lose some accelleration due to the taller tires. If you're lowered you may run into clearance issues, but it's hard to say, since the tires would be considerably (20mm) narrower than stock.

OK , 205/50/16 is the wrong size tire for your car . Stock size is 225/50/16 , those are what you should be running . A 205/55/16 will also work , but will be narrower , a 215/55/16 will fit on the rim but will be a bit taller than stock and your speedo will be off slightly .

ok, so it is 225 not 205 (i was looking at the wrong size on the tire store's website *doah*)
alrighty... aside from my mistake... i only want to basikly change the the height of the sidewall and nothing else.... so my speedo will be off, that can be fixed right?
so whats everyone else running tirewise?

Since the stock rim is only 6.5 wide , i use a 215/55/16 tire on them. It is 25.3 in diameter and stock is 24.9 , so the speedo is not off very much . These may be what you want ... ;)

id say go as wide as 235, wider is better :D (depending on what rims you have, in an attempt to keep your scrub radius close to stock)
i think its 235/45 that will give you a slightly smaller tire than stock, to give you slightly shorter gearing, and the speedo will read about 1-2mph faster than you are travelling

id like to get somethign with a slightly taller sidewall.... to help me get up the driveway without rubbing on the plastic peice down under the engine...
i do like wider though :)

bah taller tires are teh suck, but I can see your need for them...
Well the wider you go, the more expensive they get, so maybe 225/50 or 225/55 is a better application for you

225/55/16 are 25.74 in diameter , way taller than stock , the speedo will be out for sure and they'll probably rub ....;)

You lower your car but want to keep the same ride heigth. Why not go back to the original springs? Or swap with someone who springs have less drop. You could also get custom springs from a spring shop. A 215/55 may fit and give you clearence. I know 226/60 do not fit but they are a bigger tire. The original chrometech are too narrow to properly mount a tire wider than 225 and 225 is too wide for anyone looking to corner with them. I know that a 205/55 will outhandle a 225/50 of the same brand and model of tires, they just don't look as cool.
