shopping at autozone.. in hopes of trying to solve my bogging problem (see cam position sensor thread).. i'm thinkin of trying the repair myself..
1. is the sensor before or after the cat. converter
2. anytihng special i should know
3. how and how hard is it to do the repair manually

You will also need a socket made to replace O2's with.

You don't say what motor you have in your threads so It's hard to say how many are on your car.

The job is not bad. Some say remove the old one while the motor is still warm. But do not tighten in the new one while the motor is still warm.

Myself I soak it with penatrating oil, let it sit over night and try the next day. Most GA's have one, but some have two.

Is the car missing.
Put your hand by the exhaust pipe at the end of the car. If you put it close enough you can feel the puff of wind coming out from the cylinder exhaust.

you should feel it puff puff puff puff ect.....
if you feel a puff puff puff puff then the car is missing. Fixing the miss should fix the power loss.

Don't breath the exhaust of course.

just got off the phone w/ autozone..
there's 2 sensors.. one downstream after the converter and one in the manifold.

the downstream one is about 300% more expensive (95$ as compared to 18) which, with my recent enrolmment in another school, I cannot afford.

So first off, how much damage am I doing by driving around on a bad o2 sensor?

and what are the chances of only the cheap one being out? (laff)

I been driving around for about 2 months with a bad O2 Sensor (manifold one) and the only problem is crappy gas mileage. Dealership wants 190 CAD for a new one. I do have one on order at NAPA and it's going to cost 135+Tax.

for labor.. replacement of o2 sensors.. an hour should be enough? correct?

also.. wouldn't the ECM return a code for the o2 sensor? once agin.. the only code is the fuel mix being too rich..

If the O2 is bad it is sending the wrong info to the EMC with is setting a rich fuel code, or maybe the wrong code, but it is just using the info it's getting.

As far as running with a bad 02. It will change your fuel mixture, it can make it too rich causing bad milage and the plugs to fowl faster. Or it could be running to lean wich will fry the vaulves.

It's worth changing them out if you plan to Keep the car for more than a couple years.

That's my 2 cents.

i'm definately gonna chg em asap. as soon as i get this cash flow in.
I'm not driving the car and i tend to keep it that way as long as I can. Gonna drive my mom's 94 sable with the oil cakin on the converter.
