ok, before i invest, i have a questions to finalize my decision. has anyone ever heard or does anyone have dual dynomax super turbos on thier 2.3L? if so, how does it sound. i have found dynomax super turbo's for $41.48 a piece, and if these arent good can you tell me a different type for around the same price? if you have had any bad experience with these mufflers or if you think it is a bad idea, please post your opinions. i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks,

I'm curious as to what thats supposed to mean too, considering I'm using a clone of that muffler on my 2.4 and it's anything but a fart cannon.

thank you Xeiros. how has your expierence of the clone been so far?

So far, I'm very very pleasently suprised. I originally purchased a flowmaster super 40, but due to the raspyness of the engine, it sounded horrible (made a loud rattle noise). The dynomax clone has almost completely eliminated that noise, due to the glasspak internals of the muffler. There is still a very very slight noise at around 3k RPM's at wide open throttle, but thats to be expected of most engines under that kind of strain. I definetly recommend it to anyone thats interested in them.

I'm currently awaiting a Borla proXS to see which of the two I plan on keeping, and then decide to order another one for my other exit. I believe Matt is running the Borla proXS on his 2.3, but they are more expensive. They run about $81 shipped off ebay, but from the sounds of it, they're worth it. I think the Dynomax or Dynomax clones make a perfect budget muffler.

wouldnt that sound different from 2 mufflers?

They sound good on a 2.3. They are quieter than Borla - since the perforated tube snakes through in Dynomax, while Borla is straight through.

You can, but I'd recommend getting 2 single mufflers instead with a Y-pipe before them (like the stock setup). Many exhaust shops seem to have trouble using a traverse-mount muffler on a pre-99 chassis... and others do so with massive sacrifice to ground clearance.

Not really.

Ignore that. Dynomax is one of the best sounding mufflers on the 2.3... and looks nothing like canister mufflers most associated with 'fart cannons' :roll2:

The Super Turbos are good sounding mufflers. I perfer the Ultra Flow Dynomax...they flow better but in doing so are a bit more raspy.

I have a real cheap flowtech raptor turbo muffler on my 2.3 for $20 it sounds pretty decent. Once I get all the leaks fixed i think it would sound a lot better. The only thing I wonder is who makes them.

What size pipe are you running, I'm just a little curious.

Peace

im not sure yet... i do have a question. what size is the stock piping and can i just keep it an use the mufflers?

and, if you know where i can find some sound clips of theses on a 2.3L or just a 4 cylinder, can you please post where to find them.

Yes, but I wouldn't even bother changing anything then.

To my knowledge, I'm the only one here who ever posted exhaust sound clips of a 2.3.

When you say "i wouldnt even bother changing anything then", do you mean not even get the mufflers? im not really looking for a power increase because i really dont want to make it faster, i was just looking for something that would sound a little better than the stock GT mufflers.

Yes, exactly. I've heard replacement mufflers on the stock piping... doesn't sound much different... just barely louder and more fuzzy. I actually liked the sound of the stock 95 GT exhaust... sounds much better than the previous 92-94 style exhaust.

who all makes a cat back for the 92-95 2.3L?

The only cat-backs for Grand Ams that I know of are Borla and SLP (which has been discontinued), and those kits are for the 99-05 cars. The previous generations don't have a cat-back you can buy from someone. You'll have to take it to a shop and have them make you a custome setup. To give you an idea, I paid about $200 for a 2.25" custom cat-back system.

Look around, take your car to some shops, and have them give you some quotes. If they're asking $300+, I honestly think they're trying to cheat you.

Depends. If that includes parts, it might be hard to stay under that much. Also depends on bend types, pipe material, if they fab a Y-pipe, etc... I spent easily more than that on pipe materials and labor alone... but it was pretty much top of the line with Mandrel bends.

Best bet for value... pressure bending. Make sure you ask the shop... avoid any shops that use crush bends.
