i just replaced my water pump at home here, but now i went to fill the coolant reservoir to get the car back on it's wheels so i can drive it, and now the engine isnt sucking any of it in! it's creating a backwards force so when i run the car instead of sucking the coolant in, it pushes backwards...i dont get it. anyways, i put it in the right way, (there's only one way to do it) and the alternator belt is exactly the same way as i took it off, but a mechanic i know said it was that i had air in the system, so i have to find this sensor thing, and fill some coolant in there first. he said it was next to the thermostat, but i dont know where the thermostat is. can anyone help me with this? i have a 97 Grand am GT with the 3.1L V6 engine. pictures would be great, but anyone who could tell me where either the sensor or the thermostat is would be very helpful. thanks!

Follow the top radiator hose to where it meets the block. Inside the "neck" where the top hose is clamped onto is where your thermostat resides. There should be a sensor screwed into the neck as well. Looks from the pics that there is also a return or feed line that goes into the neck from the recovery bottle as well.

This is the thermostat, I am going to check the book and find where the sensor is for you. also did you bleed the system?
