well, you've seen by now that i'm building up a bit of a demo type car - still very much a daily winter beater, just going to install some hi-po equipment as a demonstrator...

Single RE Audio MX12 subwoofer:

(thats last years 9" tall, 65 lb XXX on the right - tee hee)

US Amps Merlin MD42 for front duty (120 wrms+ x 4 into 4 ohms)
US Amps Merline MD2 monoblock (2000 wrms into 1 ohm)

Any ideas for a general look? I'm thinking to building the box to curve around the driver side wheel well and sort of point into the trunk on an angle....and hoping the spare tire well has enough room for the amps in some way....

Anybody got pics of wild GA trunks they can post?

i thought this was going to be an install that just regular custoers could afford? US amps are high end amps, i drool over them.

as for installs, i dont think you like my designs since i like flashy for demos cars and you want subtle but...

id use 1" plexi to make shelves forthe amps to make them look like they are floating. not sure how your sub box is, but id maybe have the plexy coming out from under the box or from around the sides.

my old old install was clean, but not real impressive (compared to what i can do now).

on the last install in this car before i sold it i flushed the amps into the back of the back seat (needed to remove some of the foam for this to work) and then make a fiberglass box in the spare tire well.

there you can kinda see 1 of the amps, but before i hid the wires.

heres just the box.

see what i meant about getting lazy and covering FG in carpet? my original intent was to have that box painted, but it was too much $ and i wasnt going to show that car again.

US Amps product is definitely high end, but the price point is substantially better than most of the product here. I can sell Merlin level amplifiers at the same price kids are paying for Alpine or Directed man...seriously ;) (also bet its less money then that JL amp I see in ur pic there tee hee) There's no doubt in my mind that the enclosure will be vented (shooting for around 2.2 cubes net, tuned to 38 hz or so)

As for amp rack, the amps are big brutish beasts (yummy) so I'm not sure if the spare tirewell is gonna work for them...at least not flush. I debated a floating plexi tower with edge lighting, may still look at that....

I think I'm going to play with ideas tomorrow...see what actually fits and what doesn't...and go from there :)

The amps are on the large-ish side

well I've got a start - I've decided to to a half-tub spare tire well enclosure with the driver up on an angle facing back. Similar to the black enclosure with the pair of JL drivers above - only much taller and the driver almost vertical....

I'm not tinkering with the amp rack...decided on a vee design with each amps power connectors facing in towards the vee...gonne basically wing this one by the seat of my pants and see how it turns out :D this is apparently how the Fish does EVERY install hahahah...

Front of the enclosure is laminated to 1" with layers of construction adhesive and soaked mat holding it in place. Back/sides of baffle are 1/2" mdf with 3 layers of matt/glass overtop forming the mold (and giving me something to staple to with the top of the form)

Each plate below is cut to be just larger than the amp that will be mounted to it....I had to invent a framework to hold the rack in its finished position while I glassed the front side (and reinforced from the back) until it hardens in place...that strapping on the sides will then come off and allow me to form the rest of the mold...

one thing at a time :)
