Well, Pontiac managed to piss off another customer.

I went out and bought a horn relay today to replace it, and what do you know. You can't get to the old one. The idiots bury it BEHIND the dash board, behind a piece of plastic that can't be removed without removing the entire dash board. Than they lock it into the housing with a metal clip that you can't remove without having more clearance, and on top of that, a connector that goes to my clutch pedal broke and fell off.

Piece of shit pontiac, they really did it. I'm done messing with this car, anyone looking to buy one? fresh paint job.

heh, i changed the relay in my 89 taurus in two minutes. The relay was right behind the drivers side dash panel in a box next to the brake pedal, not behind a piece of plastic, buried so nobody can access it.

It also didnt take my 4 hours to replace a bumper. It was a matter of undoing 4 bolts on the back of the bumper enforcer and pulling it away.

Okay, apparantely you haven't changed the bumper yet. Considering the entire headlight assembly had to be removed, and the entire bumper has to be lifted up while the two bolts on each side are loosened, you would have known it takes quite a while.

On top of that, screws and bolts broke off all throughout because of being rusted out, and a special trip to the hardware store had to be made to replace them.

Well, I found the horn relay for the 1992 grand am, and guess what.

It's behind the dash panel, inaccesible without removing the entire dash. They stuck it behind the lower plastic support that holds the main dashboard to the firewall, and there is no place to go behind it to get it out.

You can reach it with one hand, but you need that hand to release a metal clip that is holding the relay in place, so basically if it ever needs changed, you pay a GM dealer a very large amount of money or you go without having it fixed.

Is there anyone here who has managed to get the relay out of the box and would care to share how they did it? I'd really like to get my horn working.

Also, if anyone has a manual of the same year, would you mind telling me what the plug is that connects to the clutch pedal, and how it's connected? When I was trying to pull out the relay the plug thing broke, sending springs all over the place and two metal contacts fell out of it. I got it put back together but now the wires and contacts aren't in it. I'm hoping it's nothing important, but my car runs with it disconnected.

If anyone knows what it is, lend me your knowledge, please.

Do you have cruise control? Make sure you do NOT hit the clutch until you turn off the cruise control... otherwise it will rev out of control.

I take it that plug is to control the cruise control. It's going to have to be put back on, i've got quite a bit of driving to do beginning of next month and need cruise control.

I have changed the front bumper on my car, didnt take 4 hours, not even close. Headlights come off easy with 4 bolts and I donno what u mean by the whole bumper needs to be lifted while you undo bolts :???: I must have missed that step.....And you really cant complain that 14 year old bolts that live outdoors are rusted, what did you expect them to be?

If they would have put the bolts in sideways, instead of upside down, they wouldn't have been ANYWHERE near that rusted, because the rain water would have ran off of them, instead of settling ontop of them and wearing down the metal.

if the bolts were sideways they would be seen on the outside of the bumper witch would look :gay: and rust even more, they dont just do things for no reason

and I had to lift it up in order to get the ratchet into it to loosen the bolts because of the way the top bolts into the fender. The headlights took more than a couple seconds, considering the GM dealer had to do a front end repair on it, and instead of replacing the broken parts they rigged them to the frame with screws and bolts all over the place.

will dont complain about pontiac cause some dumb mechanic jimmy rigged some shit. and if you had the proper extensions the bolts on the bumper would have been easier. I used a flex extension and it was pretty easy.

I used a flex extension, and it didn't come for anything. They were so rusted out that the socket kept turning off of it. I had to push up on the ratchet while i turned in order for it to break loose.

and I blamed it on pontiac because it was a pontiac body shop that worked on it.
