air conditioning problem?

i used my air conditioner for the first time today since i've gotten the car and i noticed a "whirring" noise whenever i stepped on the gas. also when the heater is on it makes a knocking/rattling noise. any ideas on what this could be?

sorry, need a few more specifics. for the whirring, is your stereo on, cause if it is it could be a ground problem. you would need a noise filter in your stereo ground. for the heater sound, it could be your heater fan. easy fix, just 10 bolts (or so) on the passenger side of your firewall in your engine compartment.

The whirring noise could be the normal operation of the a/c compressor itself. I know mine does the same thing. However, I do not hear it through the speakers on my stereo as decribed above...just in the engine compartment. :D
