So I found someone who has a 92 or 3 cavalier it is in good running condition and it has a 3100 with a 5spd. The car is pretty damn cheap, dont wanna say how much cuz then it may influence ur decision too quickly but my thought is that I could drop the 5spd from that 3100 to mine. Just wondering if anyone has thought about this or heard of attempting it... Also lemme know any tips or anything u have to say.
Peace,
Andrew

It sounds possible...but things like that usually take alot of work.

I have asked a guy I know, he's a mechanic, He's been working with GM cars for his whole life, In fact, he's got a 95 Grand Am with a 3100 V6, and he says that it's very possible, but the automatic has much more acceleration than a manual, besides, it's out of a caviler, so it may not perform as well.

since when does a power-robbing slush-box accelerate better than a 5 speed? Mechanic or not, he may wanna rethink that statement ;)

less parasitic power loss on the manual means more of it meets the pavement...which can only mean more acceleration...

People have done things like this but they always turn out to be very expensive and very time consuming. I think there also are issue that would have to be worked out with the car computer since it not set up for a manual tranny. Andrew as far as I know you only have the one car right? I dont think it would be smart for you to do this cause you will not be able to use your car for a while.

OK, your 5-speed is putting power to the ground at what, 2500-3000 rpms? besides, the gears in the manual for the caviler isn't going to push a Grand Am to all new heights.

^Sorry, but everything you've said is 100% incorrect. Yes, it will push it to new heights... those that own 3100 Beretta's (same exact drivetrain as 3100 N-body's) have had great results after this exact swap.

Joe brings up a good point... this is the kinda project to do only if you have a beater. You'll need it if things don't go completely as planned or you need time to work out the bugs.
