Hi, I just wanted to know if I could swap my 2001 Grand Am SE's 2.4 twin cam for a v6 engine to enhance the car's performance and if so what engine would I need, and would it be worth it?
-Thanks for your help in advance-

The amount of time/money needed to swap to a V6 could be used to make the 2.4 significantly faster than the V6... there is plenty of aftermarket for the LD9.

yea i'd say just beef up your 2.4
or buy a new car with a bigger engine if you want

Actually you are quite lucky to have a 2001, Twin Cam. In only the years 2000 and 2001 GM made a supercharger kit for our motors. The beauty of it is you buy the SC, install, then the dealer will reflash it. No other mods or support are needed to add 40 horsepower. My install was 1 full day so no real downtime. And it is engineered for your car! So if you want to swap a v6 in there I doubt you could do it for under 2500 and end up with 15-20 horses less. Just my $.02.

^agreed. The 2.4 isn't too far off the v6 motors in the GA's. The SC kit is a direct bolt on. Not to mention you can change out the pulley on it and get a smaller pulley to increase boost. So the 40hp gain can actually turn into more.

Whats the stock psi on the GM 2.4 SC kit?

4-5 PSI on stock 2.8" pulley.

I've seen up to 6 on mine with the stock pulley. but not very often.

It's a worthy option... and fairly cheap. ;)

The incompatibility goes beyond the PCM... the 99 uses different injectors, etc... I'm not sure it is as simple as swapping a PCM. But... you can still run the GM charger... you'll just need the following additional things:
2000+ starter
set of 4 low impedance injectors (can't use the high impedance ones included in the GM SC kit)
tuning software - HP tuners
...plus a good retune, with wideband O2 at minimum, or better yet a pro dyno tune

some 99's came with the high impedence injectors and smaller starter.

Yea, in the J-bodies... not sure if this been confirmed on any Grand Ams? Mid-year transitions suck... so hard to keep track of.
