Sold the last setup I had to a friend that worked with and went and got something else. I was running 500W RMS at 4 OHMs with the last setup I had and I'm running 2200W RMS at 1 OHM now. It's loud but I don't think I'll be keeping this for this way very long, I'd like to do something custom. Pics for all to see, I got a yellow top because my lights were diming and they still are for the most part but wont be after I get the alternator changed. If anyone knows how much trouble it is to install these batterys you'll know what I had to go through long story short I had cut the ends of the battery tray so it would sit in correctly.

I see 4 awg power wire and a small agu glass fuseholder there.... and you said you're running 2200 wrms? Sorry man, I'm just not seein it as Ohms law says it isn't possible :( Not trying to be a dick, but 4awg power cable is just not gonna support the power bro.... your amp SHOULD HAVE 1/0 power inputs at a minimum if its making anywhere near the juice you hoped <wink>

Nevermind I see the subs listed in your signature... Sorry

You mean to tell me that you believe that a Boss Amp is putting out 2200 rms ?

Not to be rude or anything.

Its what it says in the manual, it's what thier site says, and it's what my audio guy said as well, I'm not impressed with it overall simply because it says "BOSS" on it, and in my past experiences (With 6X9's Low ass tweeters) wasn't that great, but this is significantly louder than the last setup I had, and I can safely say that yes it sounds about 3 times as loud, they state 1200 RMS 2 4 OHM, and 1700 at 2 OHM and 2200 at 1 OHM, They're dual voice coil 4 OHM subs wired to 2 ohm then back to 1 ohm at the amp it self, ya I'm running 4 gauge and haven't changed the wire yet, I'll be doing that in late spring early summer, it's too cold IMO and I won't be running sub in the winter anyway.

the amp just isn't physically bit enuf to produce that kind of power man. I've got a relatively efficient US Amps piece and its twice the size for the same power (let alone needs 1/0 power cable).

I'm not trying to put your stuff down...I'm more angry actually that an "installer" would tell you tha such an amp will produce anywhere near that power and THEN put 4awg on it happily....<shakes head>

No wonder people get jaded in this business...

I didnt want to come across as me talking shit about your stuff man. I just dont like Boss personally.

Dont think I was saying you have bad products or that your amp is shit because I wasnt.

Just stating my opinion

the alpine amp I just installed is that size, and is 600rms.....

Sweet battery, how much was it?

Ended up paying about 160$ for the battery, which wasn't a bad price in my opinion.

Trunk is as clean as its going to get for the most part, I'm saying I know I've got more power than the last setup, in all honesty I couldn't tell you how much tho.

nah, you can clean that up more ( if you wanted to) run all the wires down the back of the box in blue loom, that would look cool and go with the blue theme that you have already.

What system did you have before?

I'm almost certain that Boss amp will not do the 2200W it says it will, however it will do about 1200W I believe.

I remember the slightly older Boss "3000W" amps were based on the same board and components that was in one of the Lanzar Vibe amps (an amp that put out a real 1200W RMS). The prices were similar and everyone (well everyone in the know, lol) knew that the "3000W" Boss amp was really about 1200W.

I'm pretty sure the same has been the case for subsequent Boss 3000W amps, yours probably included. You might try a search at SoundDomain, CarAudio, or other similar forums to see if you get any hits.

Anyway you should actually feel better that the amp is really not 2200W RMS, though lol. Neither your power wire nor stock alternator would be up to that job...

If the actual output is around 1200W you might be fine with "only" 4ga wire. Depends on the total length of the 4 ga and what, if any, other amps you're running though. Provided your 4 ga is fused properly for it's length you shouldn't run into any huge problems...

funny thing is that the more efficient amps that cost over 4x the price of that one cant be made as small as that one and have that much power. they cant even do it with 1200 watts.

its funny how the $1/watt rule has gone out the window real fast. people will eat anything you put in front of them. the honest salesman is also out the window. we are few and far between.

and its not that tough to put in an optima. i had one in my car, and 5 seconds with a pair of pliers and the modification was done.

Well the battery I bought was bigger than the tray it self and had to be cut on both ends. No big deal really, I don't know if the engine bay or the battery tray on a 99+ is any different than a 96-98 Model so mine would be a little different than yours would be Dave, at any rate I could really care less about how much power Im getting out of that boss amp, all I know is that its louder and more powerful than the last setup I had.

To cover RisingX2004's question

The setup I last had was 2 Alpine Type-E's running on (2000 Watt) <-- HAHA 500 RMS Volfenhag Amp. Sounded ok for the most part.

Type E's are not bad for entry level subs but those OZ Audio subs are nice, I like their stuff

Yeah the "modification" for the Optima is an interesting one, lol. You realise the battery can't fit and then you have to start breaking stuff to make it fit, LOL. Years ago when I had to do mine, it was out in like the dead of winter with it snowing on me, with it getting dark out, in my school rez parking lot, lol. Then I dropped the battery bolt and had to go under the car and remove part of the plastic tray under the bumper and get it out, lol. Good times.

In retrospect I think the 75/35 Optimas are probably a better fit than the 34/78. LOL.

You guys and your back yard antics :) The mod is simple - pull the tray out, cut off the ends and put it back. The depth is fine, its the width thats not.

The 75/35 is pretty much the same footprint width wise as the 34/78 - its just /shallower/ - which is smaller in the wrong dimension....thus I'd recommend still getting the larger battery - more juice!
