Ok let me first apologize if this has been covered alread. But i have searched and i may have seen it but i forgot. When painting the interior. (bezels, vent covers ect.) I have read about some using a clear coat after they paint to achieve that glossy look. My question if you paint and don't use a clear coat, is it possible to apply one on after the fact. Also what is everyones opinion to clear coat or not clear coat. Thanks in advance Matt

I put clear on my pieces to give them some shine and some extra protection. I can repair a clear coat scratch a lot easier than a color scratch.

You can clear coat whenever you think it needs it. Just make sure the piece is clean.

i think it depends on the paint you use. iv painted my inside with dye paint i got at walmart . never clearcoated never seen a chip. how ever on arm rests it did rub off . maybe clear would help in high traffic areas. but i was also told that i could not clearcoat on all kinds of paint. for example i hear clear and trimclad /other rust paint dont work well. but just gloss black trimclad looks great on the dash!

Personally I would clear coat it but thats just my opinion.

I didnt clear mine, I think it looks great. Its already shinny. I felt if I cleared it, it would have been TOO shinny.

I am going to be painting the floor trim pieces in my car. These parts are touched when you get in and out of the car and sometimes the paint rubs off. What should I use to acheive a paintjob that isn't going to wear off on these parts?

That's a tough question. Any kind of paint will get scuffed off. Even the bare plastic gets marks in it.

Epoxy is tough but I got chips in it when I had it on my calipers.

How about if you paint it and then put that clear vinyl that they use for bras and headlight protectors.

You could also use many coats of clear and repaint when it gets scuffed.

Or take your shoes off before you get in....:P

That's a good idea..... that clear 3M stuff. I think I am going to do that. Don't know why I didn't think about that before!

No, I need my shoes to drive. :)

I painted everything minus the doors black and red, and have come to realize i love clear coat... it helps the paint stay and just gives it the new look to it, if i can can get off my butt and get my pics developed ill post them. And about the high " traffic" areas ( armrest, steering wheel, doors) I would suggest a light coat of clear followed by a bunch of heavy clear coats and about a week of trying not to touch the parts painted. The steering wheel i gave up on cause i have to touch that.. i just bought a cover and said fug it.
