Mike planning on fiberglassing in where the old plate was? Try some expanding foam, spray it in there first then it will support the mesh and resin. :)

You are so funny, only guy I know that would swap out $600 tail lights for a pair of stockers.

I just can't wait to see what they have become when they are all grown up and gone to finishing school.

It will get done little by little, unfortunatly I have some things that have priority over these tails. Wiring isnt exactly going to be the easiest thing either considering there set up for a 99+ harness.

Joe sounds like my delema with my S10 to Colorado tails.

RJ and I figured it out in about 10 minutes, need help you know who to call.

Yeah definitly, I kinda figured when Im ready to do it I can just cut each wire one by one and see what stops working lol then label it.

ga5speed02
10-23-2006, 07:51 AM
wireing should be easy. Joe general rule of thumb with GM cars, the brown wire is the running lite wire. green and yellow shoudl the turn signal for both sides. im going of the top of my head but i can help you further if im there. i had to figure itout wheni wired the ZR1 tails in the blazer. its not so hard. if worse comes to worse hard wire it

thanks for the tip. yea i will be glassing that part in. i hope the resin and harder not have a reaction with the foam and start to 'eat' away at the foam

also im not worried about losing them, true i dont have it, but to have tails that fit proper and both lense are exact mirrors of each other and i can change bulbs with out taking it apart, is worth more to me then the money :)

Thats pretty basic yes. Not sure about green, I have a lite green that is reverse on both the S10 and Colorado.
But some have a seperate turn signal like on 5thGen GAs. (mike if you get a chance could you findout which color is the turn?)
I'm going from a one wire brake/turn to a tail that has seperate brake/turn. However I'm lucky enough where in the LED housing it combines them anyhow and I can run my yellow wire to either the brake or turn input.

You are very good at what you do.

Now for the criticsm.

1) Too close to the lip of the trunk.
2) Way too crooked lol.

Mad skills tho.

I think it would flow a lot better if the tails were shaved too.

TA^Guy
10-23-2006, 10:22 AM
Nick I think he's been pondering shaving the tail lights. Just trying to figure out what to do. I say he uses a line of fire on the lower edge of the trunk lid. :)

Big Joe

It would be cool to shave the tails then get the reverse lights off my generation and put them into his bumper and use them as turn signals.

Some of the new line of fires have brake, turn and even reverse lights built in multicolored!

I'll be shaving my third brake light soon and using a cheeper single color line of fire inside my rear window as a third brake light. Just not sure if I want it mounted to the top of the glass or bottom.

Mike, please don't shave the taillights. :( That has to be the worst mod, IMO.

Now that would be bad ass, but not as bad ass as a Colorado tail light conversion . Talk about custom!

hey mike as for the foam thing. you should paint the foam before apply the resin/mat. should stop the resin from eating the foam.

See? Itd be the SHIT -- but your license plate would have to be about 35-45% smaller than it is right now, and its the one thing on your ride that you can customize at all.

Everyday I wish we had smaller plates like in europe... so thin and sexy and with very dignified lettering. Bah, humbug on the USA.

ga5speed02
10-23-2006, 04:46 PM
DPTF on my blazer wheni put the ZR1 roll pan on i had to shave down my plate to fit in the small box. look close at my plate, the the edge to the blue border. i had to grind down all that white space to the blue border to fit lol

im sure if you piviot the plate on its same axis it could fit. it fit that way should be able to read top to bottom

Nice work Mike, dont like crooked plates but you did a good job on the body work.

The rear bumper is fiberglass right? I'd cut out the old license plate, flip the bumper over lay a few layers of mat on from the back, resin and repeat build up about 1/4" thickness, flip the bumper back over to the finished side and smooth it over with body filler. If you can follow all that

ga5speed02
10-24-2006, 10:02 AM
i know what your saying and yea it is fiberglass

i cant waitt o finish up the work on the trunk. thats only one layer of filler. it looks like dookie up close. plus there is a dip from where it warped when i did the key hole a few years ago. so its still not completed yet.i got to 'feather' out the filler more and get the contour of the trunk just right
