sorry, I did a search and did not come up with anything helpful.

I know that the 3400 has head gasket issues, just wondering if the late models 97 of the 3100 also had cheap gaskets in them. or if the the 3100 has any other major flaws. The way I figured it they should have worked out most of the issues by 97. But I want to know if I should start saving for any major problems??

once again, I am a body guy so apologies if this sounds ignorant.

There are no head gasket issues for the 3400. It's a LIM gasket issue. And it's not due to cheap gaskets, it's due to shitty design in the manifold. The 3100 experiences the same problem.

thanks.
I know this is probbaly asked often but, what should I be looking for or what are the symptoms that tell me it's time that the gasket needs to be dealt with???

Coolant loss. Check your coolant level often.
