How do you find out what kind of heads you have. (ex. 086)

Remove IDI cover. (4 bolts, elec. conn. & pull straight up). You can then seen the casting number. It's hard to photograph because of the angle you have to look at to see the last 3 digits.

Quad 4's only have 1 head. So it's singular not plural.

My bad on the wording. Anyways, i took the IDI cover off and looked around, but I couldn't find it. Can anybody give me a more detailed discription on where it is located.

It's hard to describe without have an engine in front of me, but it's on one end of the head, and there is a little hole you have to peek through to see it. It's cast right into the metal...

Its on the timing chain housing side, you have to look down in between the head and the tch possibly with a flashlight when you have the idi cover off. the three end numbers are twods the front of the car.

Yeah p8ntman's got it, was thinking it was that end, but couldn't picture it. Mine's a 303 which I thought was replacement only, but it's the original head. I guess I should yank it off and take my time prepping it and one day down the line it just might end up on a W41...

Hey Large,

I was thinking about your misfortune. As far as I can remember the last thing you did was add the W41 chip from manta right? I have heard of people blowing their motors from adding a chip before, I never believed it, but you don't think your car's problem could be from the chip do you?

Nah, I had it in for months. The raised rev limiter could have contributed, but I think the motor was just too tired and didn't care much for the dragstrip.

The casting number is located in the valley of the cyl head between the cam carriers...... at the timing chain housing.
