6x9 rear 2000 grand am

hi i was going to put a set of after market speakers in the back of my 2000 grand am se but when i pulled the speakers out there are 2 sets of speaker wires on each speaker how do you wire the after market speakers with 1 set of wires there is a factory radio amp in the left corner of the trunk any help would be appreciated thanks gary

Sounds like you have a monsoon system, do a search on that and you should find a lot of info.

Monsoon is 2001 & up. That would more than likely be the "premium" sound system, which predated the Monsoon. (Totally diferent from each other) I don't really know anything about that one but I'm sure a 1999/2000 owner will chime in soon.:)

I believe the amp powers the 6x9s. I know the radio powers the 4x6s

its the same set up as the monsoon, one wire goes to the tweeter, one goes to the woofer, so its a dumb set up just like hte monsoon. best bet would be the infinity kappas series cause they have the same tweeter/woofer set up. this has no meaning to this thread, but the premium sound setups uses a different speaker for the 6x9, much smaller magent.

NO!!!!! DO NOT HOOK UP A KAPPA TO YOUR '99/'00 PREMIUM SOUND!!!

-Sorry about the caps but I wanted to make sure the guy sees this for sure. The premium sound is 4 ohm. That I know. The Kappa's are 2 ohm. You'll fry the stock amplifier if you were to hook up a Kappa to it!

There'a nothing wrong with either system. They'e better than the run of the mill stock systems.

wow that premium is 4ohm? that explains why they used different speakers.
