Hey guys, just was wondering what you think of window/vent shades, i had them on my car about a year ago, but they ended up getting broken off, and i've been thinking of getting some new ones, but i'm not sure, so i'm looking for a little input...
my baby's a red 95 GT sedan
Get new ones, or leave it alone?

On a black car it looks fine since they blend it to the rest of the car but I would say on a red car just leave them off. I would love to get some because they r so functional but the way they look on my red 96 is just annoying... Anyway good luck with the choice!
Peace,
Andrew

:agree:

FOr whatever reason I'm not a huge fan of them on cars. But on truck on the other hand I don't think they look bad.

No, I believe Rice would be chroming them, or claiming that they give the car better aerodynamics :D

How did you break em so fast? I've had mine since 1999, and they were originally on another GA before mine.

Because of the triangle window on the rear doors, I don't like em as much on the sedan. But, they look better than leftover 3m tape goop or sun-faded black around the windows... depending on your car looks now. I was gonna pull mine off on the coupe, but that would just expose how the sun wreaks havoc on the black parts of older cars. :(

well my car got snowed in, and my step dad wanted to blow the snow off of the driveway, so he wanted to move my car, and it was caked in ice and snow......i mean completely caked. Anyway he started to dig into the passenger door, and somehow in the process of getting it uncaked and open he broke off the shade on that side, well after that got broken i just ripped the others off
but yeah i think i'm going to get some more, but i want some higher quality ones then i had last time, anyone got some suggestions?

I have them because I like a window cracked open when driving. I also leave the windows open an inch when parked to let the heat out.

I filled the outer seams with RTV to hide the foam tape and give it a finished look.

foam tape? The last ones i had had a clear adhesive that was super ultra sticky that you stick on there and let it cure for like 24 hours before driving and their good to go....
but ahhh if anyone else has them on their grand ams, post what you have on here so i have a few ideas thanks

I like them. However. I don't care for them on an SE (like mine) with chrome trim around the windows. They look kinda strange/out of place, in my opinion.
But since you don't have the chrome...I think they would look fine. Plus...they are functional. So...why not?

I've installed three sets so far on different cars. They all had double sided foam tape, about a 1/16 " thick. That left a small gap that I filled with RTV using the applicator cut to the smallest opening. I smoothed it out with a piece of plastic and cleaned up any excess when it set.

I think I used Vent Visors and/or Vent Shades. There's not many choices. Maybe what you used has thinner tape.

I also leave the window down a little when it's going to freeze. That lets me roll it up and down to break the ice on the bottom. I need to roll down the window to use my pass to get into the parking lot at work.

i had the auto ventshades brand on mine, but the dealership messed up the front's when replacing my windows. So they replaced the fronts with GM brand. Main thing I like about the GM brand is that the logo is printed on, where the ventshades you'll need to sand their logo off.
