Well, unfortunatly, my grand am never had a tach from the factory, so i got a nice one with color changing lights on it. Looked threw my chiltons at the wireing diagram, but when i looked at my wire harness, the wires are different colors than what chiloton would say. So i'm wondering if i should trust the wire number, the wire color, or if i'm just in the wrong area all together!
Thanks again!

I would trust it. Some years the manufacture changes the color of the wires. My 96 grand am 2.4 had a different color wire for the 02 sensor then what was on the wire diagram, but it was the correct wire.

Do NOT trust Chiltons or Haynes for wiring diagrams on the 92-95 GA's. I've found them to be wrong several times. (I recommend the GM shop manuals from www.helminc.com for accuracy)
I don't know the pin or color in the inside of the car, but I can tell you that you can connect the tach to the white wire in the IDI module plug... the one that connects to the drivers side of the cover saying "Quad OHC."

in that same harness (or in the main vehicle harness) you'll also find a purple/white wire. Measure it!!!!!!! Set your meter to AC voltage, ground one side and measure the wire with the car running - you'll measure /some/ ac voltage. When car is shut off, it'll fall to zero....THATS how you know you got the right wire...
TEST TEST TEST!!! :)

pull off the cluster there is a white wire leading in to the harness connector this is the tach sending wire direct from the ecm. just splice in and follow the direction on the tachs instructions.
Peace ;)
