Heya, for christmas i can get my 2001 grand am se1 installed with a remote keyless entry/remote car start. I'm a total newb to these so what do yall recommend and where should i take it to get it installed. I want one that unlocks/locks the doors, (dont really need an alarm but theyall come with it) and one that starts up my car (cold winters) I installed a head unit with subs and a amp so i hope that doenst interfer.
Also prefer if the remote had a flip panel so i dont accidently hit the buttons because i often have other stuff in my pockets

Most car starters come with keyless entry so you really don't need to get the alarm if you don't want it. Most car stereo shops will install it for you.

i dont have a ton of knowledge on remote starters and keyless entry, but i know they make a lot of different styles from a basic unlock/lock with a remote starter and some come with alarms and then you have the units that have 2 way pagers and all that fancy stuff its your preference, i just installed myself a viper 160vx its just a remote started with a unlock/lock no alarm on it... i got it off of ebay for 70 bucks... alot of people say that they hate DEI, at first i wasnt to pleased when i didnt recieve a installation manual but a few people on here helped me out with getting one...personally i would recommened the 160vx its just a basic model, but im sure hundereds of people will say that DEI is garbage...so far i have not had any trouble with mine at all

Shelby alarms with remote start freaking rock.

Peronsally I love my DEI (Viper alarm) I get why people dislike them but I have had no troubles with mine for over a year, mines a bit higher than your price range, you would be looking at at least $500 installed for the Viper 791XVa, combo alarm/ remote start with two way paging. I personally love it.

I just installed this one for my wife, took the better part of a day. Mostly because I soldered all the connections and spent most of my time on the internet chatting with some pals :P

if you want it with an alarm:
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=Alert+750r+alarm&btnG=Search&lmode=online&scoring=p
It has good range, start confirmation, programmable start features, door and trunk open, interior temp display and a ton of other features I don't know about. What really sold us was the vehicle specific installation support availible through thier website that plus thelow price, and features.
This is my 2nd starter install BTW. For my first one I was 17 (10 years ago) and had to make it work with the generic install instructions.
