ok, so you know my grand am is lowered... indy winters suck balls with snow... so efforts to keep the ga lowered i decided i needed a second car for winter/bad weather use... i was thinking about a crown vic (police interceptor) but the paint wasnt the greatest, inside sucked, it didnt have the get up and go untill 2nd gear.... so i looked around... couldnt make up my mind on anything else (Trucks, car, suv) untill i saw a "new" well it was new to me... car lot. it had a few grand am se/gt's but newer then i could afford., low miles... so i looked around the side... they had cheaper cars like neons and such... then i saw her. had to take her for a test drive...

this is the newest member of the family... smallest engine ive ever owned and i tell ya the thing gets up and GOES! (for what it is)

ok, so the seats sucked and since this isnt going to be my show off car, i got some cheap seat covers, and the stearingwheel cover too... so i know its not the greatest looking, but it made a world of difference from what it is.

actually the car itself looks almost as if it rolled off the assembly line yesterday... no dings/dents, only one place where the paint is scratched (rear bumper cover)

its been a really fun car so far!

specs: 2001 chevy caviler, 2.2l 5 speed, 2 door, manual everything. blue (but the night shots dont do the justice)

Brandon, it looks like you have a valve cover oil leak happening there. Very common with the 2200 engines. Believe me I know, I had to replace it on my '01 Sunfire.

Check out http://www.gaownersclub.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=43 for more pics of the repair process. It's not a big deal. The gasket is ~$30, and only took me a few hours to replace start to finish. Lemme know if you need any help, and enjoy your new car!

never fear, they have a "we owe" its part of the contract they are repairing that for me for free :) i didnt mention that in the part since they are fixing it for me :) but thanks for the thread, i might keep that one handy later on down the road :)

Excellent! I bought mine private sale and didn't notice the oil leak until after I took delivery. But like I said it's no big deal. The Cavi looks nice, enjoy it! The 2.2L 5-speed combo is pretty peppy for an econo car. :)

Very nice! My last car was a red '02 Cavi LS! I loved it! (Until I got my GAGT :D)

I'll testify to the acceleration though, it's crap... Onramps are always a scary proposition in a 2.2L producing 115hp... lol I'm glad you got a GA first! But, like I said, very nice and clean! Love the color!

lol... yea, when the grand am was in the shop, and i had to pick her up my left foot was looking all over the place, my hand on the shifter was thinking about trying to move it.... they kind of felt bored for the ride home....

*stepping on the gas took care of that*

Was that with a manual or automatic transmission? Because manuals with that engine are not that bad. A manual in my cav is surprisingly spirited.

Brandon

yea, the manual version is peppy for what it is... 3rd gear and 70 mph... she cant keep with the ga, but its not a geo either.

Mine was an automatic, very well maintained (I say that to eliminate transmission flaw questions)... And, I swear, it did 0-60 slower than my mom's '98 Camry, which is about ten seconds... I had one, so I'm speaking from experience, I hated it for it's acceleration, other than that, it was a really nice car!

I've driven many of both (Automatic and manual), and I can attest that the manual at least 'feels' a lot faster than the auto.
