Alright heres the deal. I can get a indash dvd for really cheap, but the problem is the unit is 7" deep, and the factory spot for a radio is only 6 1/2" deep. What can I do to make this fit and look right. The problem is the piece in the back of where the radio will go sticks out, and without some major cutting of support brackets I am at a lose. How bout some ideas I know you guys on here are quite good at mock ups as Ive seen over the years many interesting things done. So fellas how bout some creative solutions to getting this unit into my car. Thanks, and yes I searched and didnt really find anything that answers this question.

is it a plastic peice or metal? because if its plastic you could grab a pair of vise grips and posibly break it or if you have a dremal with a flexable shaft you could probobly cut it out if you cant break it or cut it you could put it in and fiberglass around it and make it look good

Is the DVD unit a 2 DIM, 1.5 DIM, or a 1 DIM? The stock size of stereo in your car is a 2 DIM area, so if the new deck is smaller than that you'll need an adapter to make it fit. Depending on the adapter (which you can probably pick up fairly easily) it may or may not make the new deck stick out an extra 1/2 inch. If it's a 2 DIM, you may have problems installing it, as it wouldn't be deep enough, and the trim folds down around over the radio, which might require modification. Hope this helps.

I have a 2 dim. The unit fits in the slot, and actually fits through the stock bezeling. But the issue is that it sticks out about 1/2 farther than a regualr radio would. This is more for astetics than for mounting. The piece in the back is metal. There is a bump out and a piece which looks like it is there for some kind of support. If I cut that out would i have a problem?

That piece in the back is for support for the stock HU. The back of the stock HU has a plastic pin that fits into the hole in that bracket so the back isn't just hanging in space. You can indeed cut it out, but that can be easier said than done due to its location. Other than that, there's not much you can do other than get a mounting kit that may frame your new HU better.
Out of curiousity, what's the DVD unit brand and model number?
