Try the Engine Specific Forum, 3400 Discussion - there's a few members there that may be able to help you.

You may have a lower manifold gasket blown, and a few others have had the same problem.

... on the right hand side of the engine, under neath the throttle body is typically where I have seen them leak ... the antifreeze runs down the side of the block and sits into the little 'slots' on the top of the tranmission :(

That is exactly where mine was leaking. I just had
my lower and upper intake gaskets replaced. Get
ready to pay for it though.

... I'd bet money that it is at the corner where the intake meets thehead ... seems to be the common place :(

Seems GM has a real problem with these engines developing this leak . Which gaskets work the best to fix this problem . I'd be leery about using the factory ones .

My water pump went because the dex-cool turns into "jello" and clogged up the system. Mine is now switched to regular coolant. :microwave lol

My car had the same leak, and then blew. Didn't blow any vital parts so I didn't have to scrap the engine. I got the gasket replaced and the mechanic put extra sealer on it to where it seamed out and sealed it off completely. Only cost me about 500 bucks. Like you said earlier, thanks GM.

I had a similar leak , but it was not where the intake meets the block , It was where the output for the heater just under the Throttle body where the hard line threads into the Thermostat housing/Manifold seems the fitting loosened enough to leak. Just removed the fitting applied some teflon tape tighened the fitting back up and no more leaks.

Uh Oh.....I was just outside tucking block heater wire away and I got a strong smell of Coolant. Guess what....appears that I now have the same leak that you are all talking about. Gran Damit!

I just got my car back yesterday from the dealer (warranty) for the intake gasket leak. Apparently this is a common problem, but fortunately I caught mine during the warranty period. GM has fixed a ton of problems and parts on my car for free. I didn't actually notice a "leak", just noticed a scent of anti-freeze once in awhile after parking my car and thats what it was.

there is a new style gasket out for the lower intake leak issue. it is stronger and has metal crush limiters formed in it.if you use the new gasket( by gm) you will need to use the new bolts for the lower intake too. gm says the rtv sealer at each end of the lower intake shrinks, allowing the gasket to move and fail. what i see as a gm tech is that the gasket actually falls apart. this base engine has been around for two decades, real problems with the lower intake came about with dexcool. this is not the only engine affected. i would consider a complete coolant drain and flush of the cooling system during a lower intake leak repair. then refill with green coolant.:agree: later

That would make sense, because my 3100 is supposed to be susceptable, and it's never happened. I look all the time, too, because of all you guys having those problems, but it's never happened. I just now have valve cover gasket leaks, but after 220k miles and about 10 yrs, I guess that's expected stuff...;)

My low coolant light always appears. I always have to add more in but never find out where it goes. No leaking appears on the floor of my garage?

Hi myt name is Dan and i work for a grage in ny and well there is a very commom problem with gm the 3.1l and the newer 3.4 they both have the same style intake gasket and they tend to leak somtimes. somtimes you get lucky and they never do sometimes they leak like a siv but you ahve to get it changed soon because thats most likley what it is check your oil make shure its not discolored if it is than you definetly have a problem its it milky then your leaking antifreez into your mnator through this gasket and it will take out bearings very fast and then youll have a much bigger problem on your hand theres also other ways it can do damage to your motor so if its not fixed soon then youll have problems ps ive changed lots of motors on cars like yours due to this problem I hope i was able to help

The 3.4 liter GM engine has a chronic problem with coolant leak through the lower intake manifold onto the camshaft area and into the engine oil reserve. This will result in "low coolant" warning with no evidence of external leak. Eventually, the camshft will break resulting in total engine failure. If you catch it early, the gasket may be replaced but at considerable expense due to disassembly of the engine top end to reach the gasket. So far GM has NOT taked responsibility for this problem. Anyone who has any GM V-6 3.4 liter engine needs to be aware of this condition. I cannot understand why GM has not issued a recall or, at least warning, but it may be because the problem does not seem to occure until beyond warranty period. I am unsure if GM has taken any steps to eliminate this threat so do not know if there is a date beyond which these engines are safe. AI do know personally that the 1998 and 1999 engines are vulnerable and have learned through internet postings that other years suffer as well.

My 99 GT has the same exact leak and I really need to know the best and least expensive way to fix it. I tried some kind of barstow leak stopper but it only worked for a couple weeks.
