Got into an accident this morning on the way to work. I was at a red light and the lady didnt seem to notice that there was a car stopped in front of her. Her car (Saturn) was totalled even the air bag was deployed. My bumper is broken, the muffler is bent and I think the frame has been bent because there is a big gap in the trunk. My lower back is starting to hurt and Ezra was in the back seat. Her back is also starting to hurt her too. So off to the docs later on today. This really sucks because I really didnt need to have to shell out money for my deductible.. ggrrrrr:mad:

Sorry about the accident, and I hope you 2 are OK. If it wasn't your fault, shouldn't her insurance cover your deductible?

Yeah I just got off the phone with my claims rep. She is going to have the deductible pre fronted and she opened up a medical claim too to cover the docs. She also set up a car rental for when I drop the car off. Its going in on Thursday ( my day off) and with this insurance they give the car priority service so hopefully it wont be gone too long. But everything will be charged to the lady's insurance. They alraedy contacted them and her insurance alraedy told them they are at fault and they will pay everything. Yay for car insurance..

As long as there not really any frame damage I dont think your in too bad shape as far as the car goes. maybe just s new bumper. I hope your back gets better. Most of all I hope Ezra is ok.

I think there is some frame damage though. There is a gap in the trunk bigger than the usual. It closes and still pops open though but I hope it isnt bad. The car makes a funny noise when accelerating too. I think maybe thats the exhaust pipe since the muffler was bent down.. But I will see on Thursday.. And boo for docs being closed today..

The Gap in the trunk is probably from the bumper being out of place. The noice might be , as you said, becuase of a bent exhaust.

It could of been much worse, Glad that you two exscaped with minior injuries.

It doesn't look all to bad. I don't think any frame is damaage, probably a bumper reinforcement, is tweaked and stuff, maybe 1500-2000 in body work at a shop maybe.

It doesnt look bad but it sounds horrible.. My car has never made noise well besides the normal engine which i dont even hear anyway. But now its loud and it jerks when I accelerate and my back speakers no longer work.. My poor baby makes me want to cry everytime.

Yep, Gotta love those who have the cranial-rectal insertion syndrome.

Well, I hope the injuries are nothing worse than a bit of soreness.

Have the collision shop install GT rear bumper cover and GT muffler. It should be about the same money and the insurance should cover most of it. Find out how much extra it would cost and sell some cookies!

You might be able to buy a used red GT bumper cover and install it yourself (with help maybe).

Get a GT front bumper cover later when someone is selling a red one.

I got my tint and SD hood when I hit a deer. I bought a used front bumper cover, installed it myself and saved $400 and the hood was the same price as them fixing the stock hood.

Sounds easy enough but as far as the hood and front bumper I have no one to help me with that so thats kinda out for now.. My back speakers no longer work and I did buy some from a member maybe if Im lucky I can have them put those in for me.. But thats a big maybe.

It should be checked out to see if there is any hidden damage first. If it's just the cover and muffler, you (meaning not a collision shop) can do it.

Putting a bumper cover is easy. Yours is already half off. There's a thread with pictures about someone else who just put a white GT rear cover on.

I bet you there are some Jersey members who could give you a hand for a few beers and a home cooked meal.... Stick a couple of screws in the right side to keep it from falling off, get a used bumper cover and install it in the spring.

A shop can install a replacement muffler. There's lots of used ones around from people who installed cat back systems. I sold my SE muffler last summer for $25+.

Short version: used parts are cheaper, available, painted, easy to install, put extra insurance money in your pocket.

If only I got the check from the isurance company I could do that. Thing is the check goes straight to auto body shop and I dont see a dime of it.

My check came to me under my name. It is my decision who fixes my car. I just had to sign a form saying that it was fixed. They can also inspect it if they want.

O. The way my insurance is when I initially called to make the claim they called me back with everything done already. They just needed to know a few things for verification and told me which body shop I can go to. They said that I can pick one for myself also if I wanted to. So they made an appointment with one of the shops they have a partnership with. I have to go on Thursday because thats the day Im off anmd my grandfather is off so he can come with me.. I want them to put new parts on no used or flattened out stuff. So as far as I know of the check goes straight to them..

Has the adjuster looked at the car yet? My insurance company sent me to their claims place. A guy came out, inspected the damage and we went in where he printed a check and handed it to me. I sent in a form when the repairs were done (by me).

You can save a few bucks by buying a painted bumper and have someone install it. They might pay for a muffler and you might be able to have the tips bent back into place. They are a couple of choices that you have.

Even if you take it to a shop and have it done, you can tell them to put GT parts on.

It's your car, they only insure it. You can get the check if you want and you can get it fixed where you want. They can recommend shops and send the money to them but it's your decision.

Go to the shop Thursday and see what parts you need. They should give you a written estimate for parts, labor and paint.

The adjuster hasnt looked at it yet. They are going to look at it on Thursday and do the estimate and all that other fun stuff. I have no idea where to buy bumpers from though or any of that stuff. So if anything I'll ask to have that put on. Thanks for the help.. I've never had to do this before. In my almost 13 yrs of driving I've had 2 accidents. This is number 2.

If there was any body work, like a crumpled trunk or fender, I wouldn't have said anything. It's looks like a simple bumper replacement and a muffler. That's something that anyone who is half way handy can do (or have done).

You might be able to get your car fixed and maybe improved for less than having a collision shop do everything. It could be a opportunity to add GT parts. There might be a junkyard near you that will sell a red GT bumper and muffler. You could duct tape it, shop for parts and wait until spring if you want to.

I don't want to be pushy, just letting you know that there are options that you might find beneficial. You can't change the fact that your car got hit. You can decide who, when and how it gets fixed.

Good luck with it and I'm glad you guys didn't get hurt.

the back bumper is only $403.00 I was hit recently and that is hat mine cost

Chris76
12-01-2006, 04:46 PM
Yeah I like that "ONLY" 403.. I dont have 403 to spend on anything but the bills. Im not a kid with rich parents nor am I a person without more important responsibilites. I have a child and bills and those come first. The total damage was 1400 and Im jumping for joy because I didnt have to spend money on the deductible. But it is only Christmas time and my daughter doesnt need toys anyway so yeah Ill blow 403 bucks on a bumper..

Tenspeed,is right on GT rear bumper. I was in four car chain reaction accident in Oct.,during the now famous snow storm in Western NY. Took my SE to collision shop,by the time I thought about the GT rear bumper, the shop already had new bumper in the garage. Totally pissed myself off for not thinking about it earlier. My muffler was even bent down like yours, they replaced that also, after trying to bend it back into place,NOT !!!! Now only if only I had a GT bumper and GT duel exhaust :(
