My car has 15" wheels on it now, I want to put 16" wheels on it. Can someone tell me what size 16" tires you run on these cars that came with 16"? Thanks

Ok, since you said 50 series, what width wheel do you have? I have some 16" x 7" wheels, I thought 60 series was as wide as I could run on them.

The 7" wheel will work fine with the 225/50/16 tires . 225mm is the width of the tire , and the 50 is the aspect ratio ( sidewall height ) it has nothing to do with how wide the tire is ... ;)

You can also run 205/55-16 which will probally give you better handling and better mileage but to some not look as cool. I put 16's on mine and used the old 15's for blizzaks

Be aware if you ever need to run chains:

On the pre-'99's, there is very little clearance from the edge of the spring seat (on the strut) to the rubber of the tire.
The clearance is soooo tight that 225/50-16 rubber will fit, but 225/55-16 (*slightly* taller) will NOT fit.
The 225/50-16 will NOT accept chains.

The chassis, brakes, and hubs were significantly changed on the '99's, and I have no idea what their tire-to-strut clearance is.

For chains to fit, you need a very narrow tire, mebbe 195, and not too tall (nothing over 60-series, IMO).
Even then, you should have a mounted tire, with chains attached, checked for fit at the tire shop before you buy the rubber.

Though I live in Phoenix, I've had occasion to use chains in our snowy mountains and gumbo-mud remote reservations.

Good luck,
-Rick

On 99+ which is what the question was about, either original 15's or 205-16 will work. the manual does say not to put chains on 225's. The snow tire thread was debated to death a month or so ago
