let me say that i did a search and did not find what i was looking for... So my gf has a 99GA SE and her rear defrosters dont work, and i know they are hooked up. so what does one need to do in order to fix it, hopefully cheaply? Any common problem where a certain device fails?

Hope I am in line here, but isn't there a fuse?

I've never used them but you should be able to pick up a defrost repair kit at any auto store. unless you've got a bad fuse, relay, switch or wiring.

Take a voltmeter and put it on the leads for the defroster, if you have voltage it may not be the fuse and such.

cheap kits, work well. I bought the grid repair for $20 works perfect.
And also, the defroster is on a circuit breaker... at least with my car. should be the same for the newer ones IIRC.

Question... Does the light above the button come on when you push the button?
There should be 2 fuses and a relay for the rear defog. All in the underhood fuse box. Relay 9, Fuse 33, and Fuse 46.
When you push the button, the dash light should come on and if you have someone put their hand on relay 9 you should feel it click.
If it does click, use a test light or voltmeter across the terminals on the window and see if you have 12 volts or the light comes on. If there is power there, there is a break in the defroster grid itself.
Let us know what you find.
